Charts of the so-called missing-links in “horse evolution” have been around for a century. But the last half-century, creationists and even evolutionists have continually warned teachers that the fossils don’t really support the horse evo-story. Finally the infamous charts began to fade from the textbooks, and many evolutionists even, all but gave up the matter. Now some creationists are pushing that the story in the chart is true. Read that last sentence, over again. We need a little background before we go on.
Evolutionists love to teach how micro-changes gave rise to all different breeds of dog. This is actually true. But from that, they teach how micro-changes just added up to make macro-changes which gave rise to all different kinds of animal. This is actually false. Micro-changes happen when genes in the DNA get swapped around with each new generation. Think of it like shuffling a deck of cards, and then dealing out a new hand to the players. Like new card-combinations are in the new hands from the same card-deck … new gene-combinations are in the new generations from the same gene-deck. That’s why you look a little different from your grandparents. But does this prove rats become giraffes?!
Hey, shuffle and deal all you want, but you’ll never get a “royal flush” out of an “Uno” deck – no face cards. You’d have to get new cards that the Uno deck just doesn’t have. And hey, breed generations of rats all you want. You’ll never get a giraffe out of rat DNA – no giraffe neck genes! You’d need to get new genes that rat DNA just doesn’t have. This is why micro-evolution cannot prove macro-evolution! It is also why a little bunny-deer thing cannot become a horse.
So why are some creationists saying the horse chart is real? Creationists teach that gene-shuffling over time can make great changes, but only – within – the “kind reproducing after its kind” (Genesis One: 11, 12, 21-25). So, we creationists teach that any changes must be very limited. This is true. We’ve also taught that mutations always make DNA that doesn’t work right. This is true – except for bacteria only. Lab tests show that bacterial genes are simple enough that if they get mutated, they can still have the same function or even a different function. But, the gene is still only just as simple as it was before – it doesn’t get more advanced. Plus, the bacteria stay bacteria – and bacteria are a thousand times simpler than even the other single-celled organisms (like an amoeba). Evolutionists shouted the victory – even though this does not prove their story that bacteria can turn into rats!
Maybe some creationists thought we should go for evo-ideas more quickly, so we won’t look silly if they turn out to be true. But a mechanism was determined for the changes we saw in the bacteria – though they are still bacteria. But no mechanism was determined for any changes that could make bacteria more complicated. Despite this, creationists now rush in where evo’s fear to tread – fighting for the bunny-deer to quarter-horse story. And there is even talk of us also fighting for the wolf-to-whale story. Can you say “slippery slope?”
Watch out when you hear of things like “directed mutation” and “directed variation” or “non-DNA heritable variation” or “ecological inheritance.” When Genesis-folks and Evolution-folks begin to sound the same (can you tell which is which above?) it’s a slope! Please pray for all the laborers in creation science. This is only one of the evidences that the Devil’s attacks and seductions are on the increase.
