Rerunning Smear Campaign: How NBC Hurts America

It may be old news but the choice to rerun the episode of Law and Order SVU’s attack on conservative/populist commentators once again had me outraged.  “C’mon, Crane it is a TV show written from a far left perspective replete with cartoonish manifestations of Christians, political groups, and in this case radio/TV talk show hosts.”   I realize this and normally can abide the hyperbolic inaccurate portrayals of my beliefs; yet this episode touched a nerve.   Maybe it was the latest attacks on tea parties with the allegations of racism and violent threats, which not only were made by the polemicists on MSNBC, but the rest of the mainstream media as well.  Perhaps it was the entertainment industry’s characterization of social conservatives and hate mongering flat-earthers.  Maybe both, nevertheless, the presentation of both conservative commentators as insincere, hyperbolic, ethnocentric ring masters and their audience as a collection of knuckle dragging, knee jerk morons is as insulting as it is false. Do these people exist? Yes, there are these elements in any industry/movement (liberal or conservative). However, they represent an infinitesimally small group, and are categorically rejected by the overwhelming majority.

Let me be clear:  Law and Order (SVU, Criminal Intent, and the original) is/are well written, superbly acted dramas. The problem is writer Dick Wolf’s content.  Again, there are some that say: “Crane it doesn’t matter; it’s a television show!  Americans can discern between fact and fiction, especially when it is this over the top nonsense.”  I would like to point out this character assassination is used consistently by politicians, activists and the MSM to silence dissent. How else can you explain why someone who merely advocates for:  border defense, rule of law, protection of life in the womb and traditional marriage is considered a radical or an extremist.  How should we respond to pernicious form of sophistry?  Not silence, but respectful objection through engagement. Silence has brought an age where Political Correctness trumps truth. Nothing But Truth has, and continues to be a place where we welcome opposition in the arena of ideas…stay tuned.
