Even the BBC was talking yesterday about the overwhelming response in America to “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,” suggested by former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and promoted by pro-family organizations such as the American Family Association.
I wasn’t able to get by our local CFA restaurant until 8 p.m. last night, but the double lanes for the drive-thru snaked through an adjacent parking lot, and the walk-up line likewise wound around the building.. It took me 45 minutes to place my order and get my food, a wait time that was standard across the U.S.
Lines stretched out to the street even in Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago, folks perhaps wanting to buy a chargrilled chicken sandwich before the mayor’s intolerant anti-diversity thugs run CFA out of town altogether.
There were CFA flash mobs everywhere, at virtually every one of the 1600 CFA outlets in the country. Yet this “Occupy Chick-fil-A” movement resulted in no assaults, no thefts, and no broken glass. This is how Christians protest: by eating chicken sandwiches instead of breaking things.
According to Rick Warren, the president of CFA reported that the chain had broken all-time sales records yesterday even before the dinner rush hit. In fact, yesterday was very likely the biggest day for any fast food enterprise in the history of civilization.
This spontaneous and overwhelming reaction is significant for several reasons. One is that it shows the depth of support among ordinary Americans for the institution of marriage. There is one reason and one reason only why people would drive 45 minutes to the nearest Chick-fil-A and then wait another 45 minutes to get their food: they wanted to show the world as well as the Cathy family they believe in man-woman marriage. There is no other possible explanation.
The sheer tsunami of pro-family Americans that flooded one CFA after another has already served, I believe, to jolt supporters of natural marriage into a sudden and dramatic realization: there are way more of us than there are of them.
Despite the constant bleating and bloviating of a sodomy-besotted media, the American people know that marriage is an institution created and designed by God. What God has defined, man must not redefine. And the pro-family Americans who showed up at CFA yesterday are not about to allow that to happen on their watch.
This should send shivers down the spine of every Democrat in the land, for it indicates clearly that they are on the wrong side of history, morality and the American people. The Democratic Party is about to enshrine sodomy-based marriage in its official party platform, and announced its plans to do so in the same week that main street Americans demonstrated that same-sex marriage is not an American value. This ought to be an “Oops” moment for Democrats, but of course it will not. They will blindly follow the forces of sexual immorality into political oblivion.
The pro-family base in America has been rejuvenated by CFA appreciation day. They are energized, mobilized, energized and eager to vote on November 6 for candidates who will stand unapologetically for the institution of marriage.
In fact, I would suggest that the pro-family energy stimulated by yesterday’s Chick-fil-A buycott could be the pivotal moment in this election cycle. Chick-fil-A may just have handed the election to the party that stands for marriage rather than the party that wants to normalize the infamous crime against nature.
Ted Cruz pointedly served Chick-fil-A at his victory celebration on Tuesday night. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, has been noticeably and awkwardly silent. He has passed up a golden opportunity to seize the moment and grab the pro-family flag. Instead, he left it lying on the ground, not sure it was politically safe to pick it up and run with it.
Mitt, the American people are with your public declarations of support for natural marriage. It’s not too late for you to grab this baton and go. It’s not too late to make a campaign stop at a local Chick-fil-A or to publicly thank the Cathy family for its support of marriage. It’s not too late to treat everybody on the media bus to a box lunch from CFA.
If you do, you will sprint across the finish line on November 6, leaving your opponent in the dust as well as the dustbin of history.
Where were you yesterday, Gov. Romney? A pro-family America turns its eyes to you. Their energy is yours for the asking. If you will seize it, you can run with their energy right into the Oval Office.
