Get the deficit under control - urge 'Yes' vote on 'Cut, Cap and Balance!'
July 18, 2011
The U.S. Senate will soon vote on a bill that could at last get America back on a path to fiscal sanity.
The "Cut, Cap and Balance Act" (HR 2560) will require the following:
• Cut: Discretionary and mandatory spending reductions that would cut the deficit in half next year
• Cap: Statutory, enforceable caps to align federal spending with average revenues at 18% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with automatic spending reductions if the caps are breached
• Balance: Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) with strong protections against federal tax increases and a Spending Limitation Amendment (SLA) that aligns spending with average revenues as described above
Under HR 2560, the BBA would have to pass both houses of Congress and be sent to the states for ratification before any increase in the debt ceiling would be considered.
It's time to get our financial house in order before it's too late. "Cut, Cap and Balance" is a place to start.
