American Family Association Applauds Lawmakers for Signing to Defund Obamacare
AFA President Tim Wildmon Says Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Marsha Blackburn Are Taking a Stand for America by Standing Against Flawed Health Care Plan

American Family Association is applauding the efforts of lawmakers who recently voiced their support to defund the flawed Obamacare plan.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) have started an online petition where Americans can tell their lawmakers to sign on to defund Obamacare.

According to Bryan Fischer, Director of Issues Analysis for AFA, host of Focal Point on American Family Radio and blogger on the AFA-run Instant Analysis, Cruz and Lee have created a petition where Americans can insist that elected officials defund Obamacare. Thus far, nearly 300,000 citizens have signed the “Don’t Fund It” petition. Potential signees can find the petition at and can also discover if their senators intend to fund or defund Obamacare.

According to the petition’s web site, on October 1, millions of Americans will be required to enroll in Obamacare and could lose access to their doctors and be forced to pay higher premiums and higher taxes. With just 49 days remaining until that deadline, lawmakers, with the help of Americans, can stop Obamacare by defunding it. By that deadline, funding for Obamacare implementation must be authorized or the money cannot legally be spent. So Obamacarecan be stopped.

Recently, AFA President Tim Wildmon interviewed another lawmaker who is standing strong against Obamacare. Last week on American Family Radio, Tennessee Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn talked about H.R. 2809, her bill that outlines four steps to end Obamacare for good:

1) Delay the programs within in the plan; 2) Defund the law so that no money is left to continue it; 3) Repeal the doomed law; and 4) Replace it with legislation that works.

“President Obama is asking for nearly $1.5 billion in new appropriations to establish state exchanges, to build a data-sharing system that will put patient privacy at risk, and to ‘conduct consumer outreach and education,’” Wildmon said. “This latter objective simply means that taxpayer money will be funneled to groups like Planned Parenthood and the Service Employees International Union—and these groups will help push Obamacare on American citizens.

“What adds urgency to this issue is that ObamaCare, if implemented, will force faith-based businesses (such as Hobby Lobby,  for example) to provide abortion-causing drugs to their employees at the company’s expense, a flagrant violation of the First Amendment’s guarantee of the free exercise of religion.”

Over the weekend, even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid admitted that Obamacare-approved insurance plans purchased through the state health care exchanges may not even survive. He said on a PBS program that America needs to “work our way past” insurance-based health care and that “we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever.”

Added Fischer in his article, “Obamacare will not be repealed, (but if it is defunded), it cannot be implemented. The exchanges won’t be built, the information technology platform will not be built, and the 43 percent of uninsured Americans who do not even know that Obamacare is the law of the land will remain blissfully ignorant. No exchanges, no data hub, no consumer education, no Obamacare.”

American Family Association summarizes their position: Even Obamacare supporters can’t get around the Constitution, which states that “No money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.” Once lawmakers sign on to defund Obamacare, there simply won’t be any funds for it to continue, which will delay implementation and give Congress time to repeal and replace this misguided law.
