American Family Association Points Out Real Message in President’s State of the Union Address
President Barack Obama attempted to create a few warm spots for America
during a bitterly cold winter in his State of the Union address last night, but
as he begins his sixth year in office, many aren’t convinced his policies are
strengthening the country. In fact, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net)
says his leadership and outlook for 2014 is weakening the United
The President focused on messages of hope but many Americans are worse off
than they were five years ago, when Obama took office.
“President Obama’s speech last night was just a tired rehash of
liberal bromides that will continue to bog down American families with higher
taxes, more government spending and more government programs,” said Bryan
Fischer, AFA’s Director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy.
“Worse, the President showed no regard for the institution of natural marriage
but instead continued his push to radically redefine it. And while he claims to
have regard for the ‘dignity and equality of every human being,’ he only has
regard for those human beings who are lucky enough to be born.”
Added Tim Wildmon, President of AFA, “President Obama’s job approval
ratings are abysmal. This is a good thing. It will make it that much harder for
him to push his secular ‘progressive’ agenda. His golf outings are
record-breaking for a president. This is also a good thing. Less time he can
spend advancing his secular ‘progressive’ agenda. Now his administration is
still taking on the Little Sisters of the Poor wanting to force them through
Obamacare to violate their religious convictions. I believe there will be
conservative gains in the fall elections that will also be a very good thing
for our country.”
The President relayed his intent for higher minimum wages and Congress’
responsibility to create jobs, adding “...across the country, we’re partnering
with mayors, governors and state legislatures on issues from homelessness to
“The sad truth is that the state of our Union is not strong, but is
rapidly deteriorating both economically and morally,” Fischer added. “And the
President’s policies are largely to blame.”

American Family Association (AFA) a non-profit 501(c3) organization
was founded in 1977 by Donald E. Wildmon, who was pastoring First
United Methodist Church in Southaven, Mississippi, at the time. Since
1977, AFA has been on the frontlines of America’s culture war. The original
name of the ministry was National Federation for Decency but was changed to
American Family Association in 1988. Today, AFA is one of the largest and most
effective pro-family organizations in the country with more than one million
online supporters and approximately 180,000 paid subscribers to the AFA Journal, the ministry’s monthly magazine. In addition,
AFA owns and operates nearly 200 radio stations across the country under
the American Family Radio banner.
Other divisions of AFA include American Family Radio, the AFA Foundation
and OneNewsNow.com, an online news provider that is syndicated
around the world. AFA maintains activist web sites such as OneMillionMoms.com that rally Christian activists to contact
companies asking them to drop their advertising from objectionable TV shows.
AFA websites average over 6 million unique visitors and 44 million hits per
year. AFA uses all these means to communicate an outspoken, resolute, Christian
voice throughout America.
