CVS Pharmacy on Christmas: Says one thing, does another
|
Send an email to CVS Pharmacy. Let them know you will exercise your privilege of shopping only at stores that recognize Christmas.
Have you been to a CVS Pharmacy lately? Despite overwhelming proof, CVS Pharmacy would have you believe they haven't avoided the use of "Christmas" at all. In fact, if you contact them, they will tell you just that!
But AFA's research shows something very differently. It appears CVS says one thing, but does another. In an email to a customer, CVS said it includes "Christmas" in its advertising, so we checked it out. In their latest newspaper insert, we examined 24 pages and hundreds of items. It showed "holiday" gift wrap, "holiday" trimmings, "holiday" home decor, "holiday" candles...and the list goes on and on. Or, perhaps you'd like to purchase a strand of their "Merry Brite" tree lights?
Oh, here it is…on page seven...you can buy a piece of "Christmas coal" for your stocking. They showed dozens of "holiday" items, but only one "Christmas" item.
Next, we checked the CVS website homepage. You can check out their "Holiday Gift ideas" in the "Holiday Center," complete with "holiday" extras and "holiday" shopping information. Of course, you can purchase needed "holiday" essentials. If you're looking for "Christmas," it's not there.
Then, we called our nearest CVS store and talked to a clerk. She confirmed there was not a single sign in the store that mentioned "Christmas." She read off several signs posted in the windows or hanging from the walls and ceilings. There were certainly plenty of CVS "holiday" greetings, but nothing that said "Christmas."
To be thorough, you will find a few of their vendors mentioning "Christmas." American Greetings has a section of Christmas cards. They'll also discount a "Christmas" bear with the purchase of three Hallmark cards. And, the Christmas Traditions company offers a selection of ornaments.
Overall, our research proves CVS, indeed, makes an effort to avoid "Christmas" in its advertising. CVS may say one thing, but the evidence says another.
TAKE ACTION
Send an email to CVS Pharmacy. Let them know you will exercise your privilege of shopping only at stores that recognize Christmas. Remind CVS that their competitors are vying for your business too, and you will shop accordingly.
Note: It is possible CVS will immediately change their website to include "Christmas" after hearing from our supporters. At the time of this alert, "Christmas" was nowhere on the CVS webpage homepage.
