AFA Action Alert!Make-A-Wish chapter to accept money from porn promoters"It is ironic that Make-A-Wish fulfills the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses, but uses money from an industry that devalues women and shatters families." - Randy Sharp, AFAEach year, Michael and Renee George host the Pittsburgh Comic Convention (PCC) in Pennsylvania. And each year, the Georges book Playboy Playmates and other porn stars as guests to help boost attendance. Promotions for this year’s PCC on April 25-27 guarantee no shortage of displays of nudity, violence, and sexual fetish fantasy exhibits. In short, the PCC appears to be more of a celebration of pornography, witchcraft, demonology, and the occult, rather than comics. The official tenth anniversary T-shirt features the picture of a topless female demon with horns, with skeletons wrapped around her legs. The word "Tarot" appears on the shirt. The convention also promotes the 25 year anniversary of "Dawn of the Dead," a horror/slasher film filled with death and evil. As part of the convention, the PCC will host an "All Ages Casino Night" and "Giant Charity Auction." Proceeds from the convention's charity events have been designated to benefit the Western Pennsylvania/Southern West Virginia Make-A-Wish Foundation. Judy Stone, president of the Western Pennsylvania/Southern West Virginia Make-A-Wish Foundation welcomes the donation, regardless of its source. "We're going to continue our affiliation with the organizers of Comiccon, and are going to remain the beneficiary of their auction and casino night." Randy Sharp, director of special projects for American Family Association, says, "The WPA/SWV Make-A-Wish Foundation has been asked to reject any money raised at the convention because of its close ties to the porn industry. Obviously, its not a problem issue with them." Sharp says, "It is ironic that Make-A-Wish fulfills the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses, but uses money from an industry that devalues women and shatters families." Although Make-A-Wish says the charity events are not part of the convention, and are held off site, Sharp says their statement is misleading. "The fundraising is part of the convention. It is held at the Raddison Hotel, which is used for other convention events."
