AFA Condemns Howard Stern's Remarks On New York Tragedy
Don Wildmon, AFA president, said Stern has once again taken a "let's jokeabout it approach" to a nation in mourning.
September 17, 2001
The American Family Association today condemns what it calls the most inhumane statement ever made by shock-jock Howard Stern following America's national tragedy.
According to Florida attorney Jack Thompson, four days after the terrorist attacks in New York City, Stern said on his Friday morning broadcast, "New York prostitutes ought to do what everyone else is doing. They ought to donate their services and go down there and give XXXX sex to the firemen while they're digging for bodies."
Moments before that, one of Stern's sidekicks stated that he has been calling women who are impressed with the bravery of terrorists and telling them, "This is Mohammed. I was involved in the terrorism. I would now like to bomb your XXXXXX with my XXXXX XXXX."
Don Wildmon, AFA president, said Stern has once again taken a "let's joke about it approach" to a nation in mourning. "While America weeps over the loss of thousands of its citizens, Howard Stern spews his disillusioned perversion on national radio," Wildmon said.
However, this is not the first time Stern has come under fire for his inhumane remarks following mass murder. In 1999, it was Stern who suggested that the killers of 12 students and one teacher in Columbine High School should have raped their victims before murdering them.
Wildmon said he plans to file an indecency complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and hopes the FCC and CBS/Viacom president Mel Karmazin will "finally pull this toxic media poison from our public airways."
The FCC has defined indecency as "language or material that, in context, depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or excretory organs or activities."
ACTION NEEDED
Pray with us for the salvation of Howard Stern. We also urge you to contact FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell and firmly but politely urge him to investigate Stern's indecent comments over public airwaves about the New York tragedy.
