Full House To Vote Tuesday On Homosexual Republican's Parallel To Gay Marriage In D.C.
Rep. Kolbe, an open homosexual, engineered a voice vote Thursday by the House Appropriations Committee to lift the ban on federal funds for a "domestic partners" law in the District of Columbia.
September 21, 2001
The House Appropriations Committee is proposing a dangerous change to the budget for the District of Columbia. Avowed homosexual Congressman Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) offered an amendment allowing "domestic partnerships" in Washington. The amendment passed on a voice vote. For many years, the D.C. budget bill has contained language that prohibits any of its budget (which comes from Congress) from being used to enforce a domestic partnership law that was passed by the District in 1992.
Domestic partnership legislation (a.k.a. "DP benefits" policies) are a legal parallel to gay marriage. Similar to the Civil Union contracts available in Vermont, DP benefits laws allow live-in "partners" of homosexuals and unmarried heterosexual cohabitators to receive marriage benefits like health and life insurance thus far reserved only for employees' married spouses. Congressman Kolbe's amendment could strike the current ban--thus ALLOWING D.C. to start to implement the domestic partnership law.
The full House will vote Tuesday on the dangerous measure. AFA agrees with Robert Knight of Concerned Women For America's Culture and Family Institute who observed, "While the nation mourns and prepares for war, homosexual activists and their allies are trying to capitalize by jamming through their agenda."
ACTION NEEDED
Pray with us for a victory over this attack on marriage and family.
Please contact your representative today and urge them to KEEP THE BAN ON DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIPS IN WASHINGTON, D.C. Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the power "to exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever" over DC.(Give your address and ask for a letter to inform you of your Representative's vote.) American taxpayers should not be forced to support counterfeit 'marriage' in D.C.
The Capitol Switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.
