Nation's Third Largest Video Chain Selling Porn

Alabama-based "Movie Gallery" attacking community standards

Leaders from pro-family groups have formed a twelve state alliance to get hard-core porn out of the nation's third largest video store chain. State directors of nationally recognized American Family Association (AFA), Christian Coalition, Family Policy Network, Kids Hurt Too, and Florida Family Association say Dothan, Alabama-based Movie Gallery disregards community standards by operating "back rooms" filled with hard-core pornography in over 200 of their 960 stores in 31 states.

Randy Sharp, Special Projects Director for AFA, said, "Movie Gallery refuses to close all of its back rooms." Sharp said, "The hard-core porn available at these stores includes graphic homosexual activities, orgies, and unnatural male-female sex. And this just describes the video's front covers!"

Sharp said Movie Gallery Chairman Joe Malugen and President Harrison Parrish declined to meet with AFA, and instead, "...sent a couple of their corporate executives over to sweet talk us, but nothing they said took the bitter taste away from the fact that their porn dealing leaves a wake of destruction on America's families."

Mike Herring, Senior Vice-President of Movie Gallery, has repeatedly indicated that money is the driving force behind the company's distribution of porn. He noted that, "while adult movies were being rented, other family movies were rented." In other words, while Dad was renting sex videos like Oral Ecstasy or 4 Hours of Hairy Man Sex, his kids would rent floor-stocked children's movies. "It's a matter of economics," he said.

The pro-family groups say their combined efforts will encompass a majority of Movie Gallery stores. The leaders will initiate a grass-roots campaign against Movie Gallery in their states, accompanied by public service announcements on the 181-station American Family Radio network.

ACTION NEEDED

Now, more than ever, it is time for Christians to be salt and light in their communities. We encourage you to contact Movie Gallery President Harrison Parrish and politely advise him that you will not patronize his business until he stops this attack on the moral fabric of our society. Urge him, for the sake of our children, to put principle over profit and get out of the pornography business.
