Take Action

This Week's TV Project 2/05/02

Brought to you by... Dr Pepper

February 5, 2002

Dear OneMillionMoms.com Member,

Great news! Chrysler has notified OneMillionMoms.com that their commercials (wife/van swapping and the Concord ad suggesting sex in the back seat) have stopped airing effective January 31! Thanks for getting involved. You did make a difference! Now e-mail information on OneMillionMoms.com to all your friends and urge them to join!

Please DO NOT e-mail Chrysler to thank them! We have already thanked them for all of us and we do not want to clog up their e-mail again! Thanks!

Below is our project for this week. Please e-mail Dr Pepper today. A suggested letter is enclosed. Feel free to adapt to make it your own or simply write a new one. But the important thing is to send that e-mail today!

Again, please forward this information to all your friends. Even though we use the name OneMillionMoms.com, everyone is welcome and urged to become a member. We need your help for our membership to grow. Of course, the more we have participating, the greater our influence will be!

If you see a commercial or program which is offensive, e-mail us information on the commercial or program. Send it to afa@afa.net. Many of you did this last week and it is very helpful.

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Donald E. Wildmon

*Project For This Week - February 5, 2002

7-Up (which is owned by Dr Pepper) has a commercial which is very offensive. A guy is walking down the street saying he is the new spokesman for 7-Up. In order to distinguish himself he had to express himself and let people know who he really is. He needed more "exposure." All the while he's taking off his clothes. He is standing in public in only his boxers. Then he pulls down his boxers and the crowd around him is staring aghast at his genital area (off camera) as he exposes himself.

In a related issue, Dr Pepper has designed a new patriotic can featuring the Statue of Liberty and the Pledge of Allegiance. But Dr Pepper left out the phrase "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. When questioned why they left out "under God", Dr Pepper replied: "We felt 'One Nation...Indivisible' best represented the message we were trying to get across."

Dr Pepper gave 12-year-old Alyssa Haynie of Colt, AR, another reason for leaving out the phrase-they didn't have enough space! When Alyssa told Dr Pepper they could move their nutritional information box down or use a smaller type or both, they did not respond to Alyssa. Alyssa says she wants "to get Christians united in a boycott against Dr Pepper until they put 'under God' on their cans. Read the e-mail 12-year-old Alyssa sent AFA regarding Dr Pepper.

It appears that Dr Pepper left out the phrase "Under God" because they were afraid they might offend someone who didn't believe in God. They evidently didn't care if they offend anyone who did believe in God. Nor did it bother them to alter the Pledge of Allegiance to suit their politically correct purposes.

Here is a suggested letter to Dr Pepper: (just copy and paste if you wish or compose your own).

Dear Mr. Tough,

As a member of OneMillionMoms.com, I find your 7-Up commercial with the man exposing himself to be extremely offensive. I also find offensive your decision to leave out the phrase "under God" from your Dr Pepper can. I ask that you immediately withdraw your offensive 7-Up commercial and add "under God" on future Dr Pepper cans.

Please let me know your response as it will affect my future purchasing decisions and my sharing this information with my family, friends at church and work, and others.

Sincerely,
(Your Name Here)
