AFA Update!February 7, 2002Dear Friend, I need your help today. I apologize to those members of OneMillionMoms.com and OneMillionDads.com who already have this information. I decided to bring this matter to our AFA Update Team because IT IS IMPORTANT THAT DR PEPPER/7Up HEAR FROM AS MANY OF US AS POSSIBLE TODAY! Your AFA has contacted 7-Up (which is owned by Dr Pepper) about a TV commercial which is very offensive. A guy is walking down the street saying he is the new spokesman for 7-Up. In order to distinguish himself he had to express himself and let people know who he really is. He needed more "exposure." All the while he's taking off his clothes. He is standing in public in only his boxers. Then he pulls down his boxers and the crowd around him is staring aghast at his genital area (off camera) as he exposes himself. 7-Up has informed AFA that "The First Thing" commercial and the rest of their 2002 campaign is a continuation of their "Make 7 UP Yours" advertising campaign that began in 1999. While they informed us that this particular commercial is no longer being aired, they seemed pleased to announce that we can expect more of the same throughout 2002. In a related issue, Dr Pepper has designed a new patriotic can featuring the Statue of Liberty and the Pledge of Allegiance. But Dr Pepper left out the phrase "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. When questioned why they left out "under God", Dr Pepper replied: "We felt 'One Nation...Indivisible' best represented the message we were trying to get across." Dr Pepper gave 12-year-old Alyssa Haynie of Colt, AR, another reason for leaving out the phrase - they didn't have enough space! When Alyssa told Dr Pepper they could move their nutritional information box down or use a smaller type or both, they did not respond to Alyssa. Alyssa says she wants "to get Christians united in a boycott against Dr Pepper until they put 'under God' on their cans. It appears that Dr Pepper left out the phrase "Under God" because they were afraid they might offend someone who didn't believe in God. They evidently didn't care if they offend anyone who did believe in God. Nor did it bother them to alter the Pledge of Allegiance to suit their politically correct purposes. Please contact Dr Pepper/7-Up President Doug Tough TODAY and ask him to: Request that Mr. Tough let you know his decision as it will affect your future purchasing decisions and sharing this information with family, friends at church and work, and others.
