Planned Parenthood pushes sexual freedom for young people
AFA Journal, September 2001 Edition
Legal changes which allow young people to experiment sexually and have increased access to sex education, contraceptives and abortion are the themes of International Planned Parenthood Federation's (IPPF) new "Youth Manifesto." IPPF is the parent organization of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).
Austin Ruse, president of the pro-family group Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, said the manifesto "essentially says children ought to go out and be sexually experimental and promiscuous, and there should be no fetters, no rules and no shame. . It is essentially a bill of rights for childhood sexual experimentation."
The document claims it "reflects what young people around the world view as crucial to their sexual and reproductive needs and rights," even though Ruse says it was written by only 16 kids and ratified by 43 others.
"This very small group under heavy IPPF supervision wrote this document, and they're saying it's practically universal," Ruse added. The manifesto demands that societies everywhere "must recognize the right of all young people to enjoy sex and to express their sexuality in the way that they choose," and calls upon governments to support sexual freedom for all young people with changes in current laws. The document also demands that youth be given access to contraceptives and abortion services.
Teens visiting the website operated by PPFA are greeted by a banner which says, "Sexuality and relationship info you can trust." Alert parents may discover how much they disagree with that assessment.
Planned Parenthood's website for kids, www.teenwire.com, does deal with such issues as dating, diet, and taking exams at school. It is when the subject matter turns to things sexual - issues which dominate the website - that the information becomes most anti-family.
Most of the site takes a question/answer format: kids write in with their questions, which are then answered and posted on the website by Teenwire's team of "experts." For example, when one girl writes and says she had a sexual dream about a female friend, the website advises the girl that she might be a homosexual.
The Teenwire editors add, "The truth is this: If you're lesbian, gay, straight, or bisexual that's what you are, and it's a fine thing. Don't sweat it, accept it, because no amount of denial is going to change what makes you hot."
In another letter, a girl is concerned about her friend, who claimed that she started masturbating at three years old. The Teenwire editors answered: "It is not at all unusual for infants and toddlers to masturbate. . In fact, experts recommend that parents teach young children that it is normal for them to touch their genitals for pleasure. . Masturbation is a perfectly normal and healthy activity at any age."
