Helen Keller Foundation profiting from porn partnership
April 2004
The Helen Keller Foundation, inspired by and dedicated to the legacy of Helen Keller, has found a new source for funding - accepting money from porn merchants.
The Foundation recently chose to enter a partnership with America's top pornographic video retail outlet, Movie Gallery. AFA called for a boycott of Movie Gallery when it refused to close down over 400 hard-core sex video galleries across the United States.
"Pornography profits are now lining the pocket of Helen Keller's namesake," says Randy Sharp, director of special projects for American Family Association (AFA).
AFA's requests to discuss the matter privately with the Helen Keller Foundation were not responded to. Sharp thinks one reason the foundation is silent rests in their Board of Directors. Movie Gallery chairman, Joe Malugen, is a member of the board.
"Joe Malugen and his company has made a fortune selling and renting videos that solicit men to cheat on their families. It's obvious the Foundation places a higher importance on money than the welfare of wives and children," Sharp says.
The Foundation signed an agreement to accept donations from customers who rent from Movie Gallery as part of a "be a star" campaign.
