Amy's Friends Help Topless Dancers Leave Lifestyle

Because a topless dancer can earn as much as $100,000 or more a year, many women are hesitant to leave the lifestyle even though they are miserable. But where there is a desire to change, there is always hope. And hope is exactly what struggling dancers find when they become one of Amy's Friends.
Started in 1998 by Amy Dupree, a former topless dancer, Amy's Friends is a nonprofit, faith-based ministry located in Dallas, Texas. Its mission is to change the lives of women in sexually-oriented businesses who want to leave the darkness for a better life. Dupree started Amy's Friends
after attending church and hearing a sermon about a person's
body being the temple of the Holy Spirit.
With the support of Preston Road Church of Christ in Dallas and more than 30 women mentors from the church, Amy's Friends provides a four-month, twelve-step program that aims to bring God into the lives of women who need His unconditional love.
The ministry also provides opportunity for participants to
attain a GED, get job training, counseling, medical and dental care. This is vital because many women have no job skills. Often, they are single mothers raising kids and are afraid to give up the higher pay. Many are also ashamed and fear that no one else will hire them.
Amy's Friends will held its first fund-raiser on December 10. A Holiday Home Tour featured three Dallas homes beautifully decorated for Christmas, with an opportunity to purchase gifts at each home.
Amy, her husband, Kyle, and Melanie Houchin, who does mentor
training, will be speaking at various locations in the future. For more information, go to www.amysfriends.net, or call 1-800-330-8861. Or you can e-mail Amy's Friends at afriend@airmail.net.
