Wise Center: Cashing in on Pornography

The Wise Center for Child Abuse Prevention in Dothan, Alabama, has a pretty good gambit going on.

They take donations from the nation's top hard-core sex video distributor and use them to help prevent child abuse. Certainly, the Wise Center has dealt with the results of children who have been molested by porn addicts who watch these videos.

Yet, they welcome the financial contributions of companies like Movie Gallery, who fuel the flames of sexual addiction and abuse by selling and renting the videos that turn men into monsters.

America's brand for hard-core porn

According to the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center, 767 kids were sexually assaulted in 2002, up 135 from 2001. Studies show that 86% of rapists are regular users of pornography. In one study of 43 pedophiles, the Los Angeles Police department discovered pornography was involved in 100% of cases investigated.

Evidently, these figures have not deterred Movie Gallery Chairman Joe Malugen from pressing forward with his hundreds of stores carry thousands of sex videos in "back rooms" all across America.

Surprisingly, it hasn't fazed Wise Center executive director Sue Rice either. She refuses to return phone calls and letters, inquiring as to why her child advocacy organization accepts money from known, nation-leading pornographers.

I hope the Wise Center has not adopted a drug-dealer philosophy – "Somebody's gonna profit and it might as well be me." Surely this is not the way Wise Center wants to operate.

Let's hope the Wise Center for Child Abuse Prevention board of directors sees things differently.
