| A message to our Members inquiring about "Christmas" and "Holidays"
We have received some comments about using the word "holiday" in place of Christmas in our August/September 06 Source Magazine.
SAM'S CLUB serves 47 million members with different faiths across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil & and China. We attempt to take a very thoughtful approach to the words we choose in communicating with our members.
In some cases, we use the word "holiday" or phrase "happy holidays" to include the season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. In other cases, we name specific holidays such as Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or Easter. In our upcoming December/January 06 Source Magazine we plan to reference specific holidays such as Christmas and others, as we have in the past. For example, in our Spring 06 catalog, we referenced Easter on the inside cover, pages 4-6 and provided menu ideas for Easter as well as Passover entertaining.
We value each and every member of SAM'S CLUB and want to make you aware of our efforts to be respectful and inclusive.

Notice that Sam's Club said “We attempt to
take a very thoughtful approach to the words we choose in communicating
with our members.
That comment confirms
that Sam’s Club intentionally used the term “holiday” instead of
Christmas in their Source magazine.
We will continue to monitor Sam’s Club and
Wal-Mart to see if they indeed give Merry Christmas the prominent
display it deserves.
Wal-Mart Joins
Homosexual Chamber of Commerce
While Sam’s Club was saying they intentionally chose the word “holiday”
instead of Christmas, The National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of
Commerce reported that Wal-Mart has entered into a partnership with the
homosexual group. NGLCC called the
company’s action "part of the company's ongoing commitment to advancing
diversity (homosexuality) among all of its associate, supplier and
customer bases" and that Wal-Mart initiated the partnership.
Wal-Mart immediately made a financial commitment to the NGLCC, agreeing
to sponsor NGLCC's 2006 events and
initiatives, offering the same kind
of support which Ford Motor Company has been giving to homosexual groups
for years.
To make the marriage
between Wal-Mart and NGLCC work, a Wal-Mart executive will serve on
NGLCC's corporate advisory council.
