The number of evangelical groups who seem to be willing to take an open, unapologetic stand for truth in the public arena seems to be shrinking almost by the day.
Whether out of fear or a desire to get all the wrong people to say nice things about them, a number of organizations that once were strong public voices for righteousness have gone silent.
Their fear is understandable. The world is hateful, intolerant and unforgiving toward those who speak God’s truth into the public square. It’s no fun to be the target of the slings and arrows of outraged liberals.
But the truth must be proclaimed and defended, no matter what the world thinks of those who declare it. Voices who will speak prophetic truth to political power are as necessary in our day as they were in the days of Elijah and Isaiah and Jeremiah.
The American Family Association has been and will continue to be one of those voices.
We believe that we are in the middle of a great culture war, with enormous consequences not only for the United States but for the world. The United States has done more to advance the cause of the gospel than all the nations of history combined. We have sent more missionaries to more darkened corners of the world than anyone else, and sent more charitable aid in the name of Christ to more needy people than anyone in history.
But if we as a nation are to continue to fulfill God’s calling on this land - to be an instrument in his hand to fulfill the Great Commission - this land must be called back to the Judeo-Christian principles on which it was founded.
