The past few days have been sobering for Christians across the world. What was once the most Bible-believing Christian nation in the world seems to have turned its back on God. In 1973 the Supreme Court legalized the shedding of innocent blood via Roe v. Wade and in 2015 the same court legalized homosexual 'marriage' (which the Bible says is an abomination in God’s eyes). These two court rulings, along with many other acts of godlessness, have brought a spirit of evil and darkness across this land.
Pondering the spiritual health of the Church in America today leaves me heartbroken. Evil is plaguing our society and persecution for Christians is looming. Throughout all of this I thought to myself, what can we do? What can Christians do in the midst of such darkness?
- The first is the Church needs time to mourn. The highest court in America has blatantly disregarded the will of God. This should sadden us to see darkness and evil legitimized.
- Second, we have to stand firm and draw close to God (1 Corinthians 16:13). God is our rock and our foundation. Through trials and temptations we are to draw near to God and let him be our refuge. It is the blood of Jesus Christ which will bring peace and encouragement among the darkest of days. (1 Peter 1:19)
- Third, followers of Christ must continue to unashamedly proclaim the truth. It is the truth that will cause sinners to be set free from the bondage of sin (John 8:32). In today’s culture many self-proclaimed Christians shy away from the truth in fear of controversy. There is a godless mob out there that will criticize and demonize any voice that promotes God and the Bible. I would encourage all followers of Christ to stand tall and proclaim truth even when insults reign down. After all, Jesus was mocked, spit on, and ultimately crucified because He proclaimed the truth of God. May we follow the Messiah’s example in proclaiming truth in hopes that sinners repent and turn to Jesus for the forgiveness of their sin.
- The last thing is Churches need to take proper action to protect themselves from lawsuits that the homosexual activist would like to bring down on congregations. It is a sobering time in America today but Christians must take action and not sit idly by while fellow Christians are being marginalized and persecuted. This whole war on marriage and family has begun with a handful of wealthy elites and god-haters. People in Hollywood and pop culture have raised millions upon millions of dollars devoted to assaulting people of faith. I would argue that this ruling promoting sodomy based ‘marriage’ is a result of a war fought on the basis of deception. Just as Satan uses lies to promote evil so have the homosexual elites used lies to advance their satanic agenda.
As I’ve said before, one thing you can count on is that the American Family Association will never endorse a behavior that God calls sinful. We are here to stand for truth in this dark time. We are in a spiritual war for the soul of this country. When Judgment Day comes, will you be known as one of the ones who stood on the front lines or someone that sat idly by? My prayer is that everyone will join in this fight against evil.
