Over the past few weeks the Pope has been on a climate change crusade. He has been blaming humans for destroying the earth by saying “The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth.” He went on to say “Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods.”
If you look into the science and facts behind what the Pope is saying, you will conclude that the Pope is the most uninformed of us all. The earth was in a warming trend up until the early 2000s then it has been cooling since which proves that humans cause little to no global warming. The amount of CO2 emissions only increase yearly because of economic growth but yet the earth has been cooling for a decade.
Even if we grant that the earth has been warming, it has warmed by an overall 0.5 degrees at the most. Yes, I said it. At most over the past century the earth has warmed 0.5 degrees Celsius. For example, it went from 90 degrees Celsius to 90.5 over a decade. This whole idea that global warming is going to make the world burn is absurd. This is all part of a fear mongering campaign to gain more control of peoples lives. Out of all of the issues the Pope could address such as ISIS, pedophiles as priest, or the abortion rate worldwide he chooses to talk about climate change. But it doesn’t stop here.
Over the weekend the Pope spoke in Italy about weapons. Very pressing to the health of the Catholic Church isn’t it? When I read this I honestly laughed. The Pope said, "It makes me think of ... people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn't it?" To put this in simple terms, the Pope just said the weapon manufacturers, such as gun makers, couldn’t be Christians.
The Pope showed how out of touch with reality he is. An army of armed guards protects the Pope himself. Yes, the Swiss Guard, which protects the Pope are armed when on duty. If you don’t believe me then watch this History documentary on how armed the Swiss Guard is. The Pope is condemning weapon manufacturers, while he himself is protected by weapons.
In Luke 22 Jesus says “But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” So Jesus just told his disciples to buy a sword and yet the Pope is saying Christians can’t manufacture swords. Not to mention Joseph, the husband to Mary, was a carpenter and it is possible that he manufactured some form of weapons during his lifetime of work with his hands.
I haven’t been one to criticize the Pope until recently. When the leader of the largest Christian denomination starts a crusade on climate change and weapon manufacturers I had to break my silence. I’m not going to sit by while the leader of the Catholic Church is propagating such false claims and narratives. Maybe Pope Francis should focus on the millions of babies that are aborted every year, or the thousands of Christians being slaughtered in the Middle East or the divorce rate in the world. Or you could condemn the act of homosexuality and call it a sin just as God does. Weapon manufacturers aren’t the problem; your ideas seem to be the problem.
