AFA Urges Americans to Contact Senators About Defunding Planned Parenthood
TUPELO, Miss.—With the U.S. Senate poised to vote on a bill to defund Planned Parenthood in the wake of four shocking videos, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) is calling on Americans to contact their senators to urge them to vote for the measure today.
As investigations into the country’s largest abortion provider are under way, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) quickly garnered at least 32 co-sponsors for S. 1881:A bill to prohibit federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Key language of the bill reads, “...no Federal funds may be made available to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, or clinics.”
On Friday, AFA sent an Action Alert to its one million-plus friends and supporters urging them to contact their senators about the bill—and the chance to help stop Planned Parenthood’s ghastly actions.
“Now is the best opportunity we’ve ever had to finally defund Planned Parenthood of the $540 million dollars they receive from taxpayers,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “The bill will instead direct that money to organizations that provide for women’s health—but don’t abort unborn children.
“As barbaric as Planned Parenthood’s actions are,” he continued, “there are some senators who want to continue funding it with Americans’ tax dollars. It is critical that we contact our senators today and urge them as strongly as possible to vote in favor of S. 1881, to protect women’s health and defund Planned Parenthood.”
AFA says phone calls to lawmakers are the strongest, most effective action. Visitors to AFA’s Action Alert page can quickly and easily find senators’ phone numbers by simply entering their zip code under “Find Officials.”
At the very least, adds AFA, Americans can send an email to their senators. AFA has provided a pre-written message Americans can automatically send to both of their senators.
LifeNews.com is reporting that the Senate plans to vote on S. 1881 early this evening.
