Navy Chaplain Exonerated; American Family Association Called on Christians to Come to His Defense, and 75,395 Did!

TUPELO, Miss.—Earlier this year, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) alerted hundreds of thousands of its friends and supporters about the plight of Navy Chaplain Wes Modder, a highly decorated, greatly respected and deeply praised officer serving in the Navy Chaplain Corps who was the target of activism that nearly destroyed his career.

But now, Modder has been exonerated by the Navy, and AFA says Christians who came to his defense are partly to thank.

“There’s no doubt that elected officials became involved in this matter as a result of the urging of faithful Christians,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “We know that many representatives and senators contacted Navy leaders after hearing from those coming to the defense of a Navy chaplain who was simply expressing his views on biblical marriage and sexuality. Now, we’re pleased to announce that the U.S. Navy has completely exonerated Chaplain Modder. This is a perfect example of how Christians can right wrongs when we stand together!”

Last year, according to AFA’s recent Action Alert on the matter, Modder’s assistant, a married homosexual, searched Modder’s confidential counseling files and then forwarded copies to Equal Opportunity representatives as evidence of “discrimination” because Modder had called homosexuality a sin during private counseling sessions.

As a result, the base commanding officer at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Capt. J.R. Fahs, removed him from his unit, told him to clean out his desk and forbade him to minister to the spiritual needs of military personnel.

While the Liberty Institute defended Modder against the charges in Navy proceedings, AFA Action Alert supporters flooded members of Congress with an amazing 75,395 emails, faxes and phone calls, urging that elected officials stop this witch hunt by homosexual hate.

Modder’s negative record has been wiped clean, and all references to the case have been removed. In addition, the base commander has been reprimanded for the improper manner in which he attempted to have the chaplain wrongly discharged from service.
