AFA Encourages Americans to Pledge to Vote; AFA Action Releases Voter Guide

TUPELO, Miss.—Now that voters in several states have spoken through primaries and caucuses, and with Super Tuesday just around the corner on March 1, the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) is encouraging Americans to pledge to vote in this important election.

In a special online initiative, AFA is urging voters, especially faith voters, to “Don’t Waste Your Vote—Pledge to Vote.”

“Voters in America have a significant opportunity to vote for candidates who reflect our values, beliefs and convictions,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “This is especially important in the remaining primary and caucus elections. When opportunities like this come around, Christians need to be informed on the candidates and vote wisely.”

Last week, American Family Radio’s (AFR, www.afr.net) “Today’s Issues” broadcast a special “Pledge to Vote” edition, which included commentary from Franklin Graham of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Todd Starnes of Fox News, who addressed the significance of voting from a biblical and civic perspective. The program will be available free for viewing through Feb. 25. After the free period, downloads at the AFA Online Store will be $5 and DVD versions will be $10.

“I’ve heard numerous times that voters don’t vote because they don’t want to choose between the lesser of two evils,” Wildmon continued. “In the primary and caucus elections there are more options at the presidential level, but my question is this, ‘Do you want more or less evil?’ Now is not the time for voters to sit on the political sidelines because staying home on Election Day is a vote for moral decay. Let us remember the words of President Ronald Reagan, who said, ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.’”

AFA Action (www.afaaction.net), a separate organization from AFA, has also released its 2016 Presidential Voter Guide, aiming to help Christians be informed voters and vote wisely in both state and national elections. The guide provides an in-depth, high-quality, web-based and non-partisan perspective on the candidates and allows voters to identify where the candidates fall on a scale from “very liberal” to “very conservative” and everywhere in between.

“The 2016 presidential election will be crucial for our entire nation, and Christian voters especially must step up, as religious liberties, the protection of life and godly leadership are all paramount for the country,” said Rob Chambers, National Field Director for AFA Action. “When we fail to protect those things—or fail to elect lawmakers who will work toward the best interest of their constituents—we risk all that our Founding Fathers bestowed on us to make this nation great.

“Now, as we prepare for one of the most crucial elections in our nation’s history,” he continued, “it’s imperative that voters are educated about all the candidates. The AFA Action Voter Guide will serve as an invaluable tool as we head to the ballot box this year. We have an obligation not only to get out and vote, but also to understand exactly where candidates stand on key issues so we don’t unwittingly vote away our freedoms.”

The AFA Action Voter Guide looks at the history of each candidate so voters can learn:

  • How candidates have voted in the past
  • Who the candidates give money to
  • Where the candidates’ money comes from
  • How the candidates answer questions on critical issues
