Dear AFA Supporter and Christian activist,
Meet Gianna Jessen, a Nashville, Tennessee, woman who, by all logic and reason, should have died at birth 42 years ago.
In her own words, Gianna was “literally burned alive in my mother’s womb for 18 hours. I should be blind, burned, and dead,” she said.
Gianna was born in a Los Angeles abortion clinic at almost 30 weeks gestation after a failed saline abortion. The abortionist was not at the clinic when she was born, but a nurse intervened to save Gianna’s life.
“Had [the doctor] been there, he would have ended my life with strangulation, suffocation, or leaving me to die without a thought,” Gianna told The Daily Signal, an online magazine of The Heritage Foundation.
It’s hard to imagine that anyone who values life would not cry out to provide legal protection for vulnerable infants like Gianna who survive abortion and are born alive.
But apparently, Democrats – in the name of “choice” – couldn’t care less if these infants live. That’s why I’m horrified to tell you that in late February …
Secular “progressives” in the Senate voted down the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
Just to clarify, if abortion fails to kill an unborn child, medical staffers are free simply to let the newborn die without lifting a finger. There’s no federal law that says otherwise, because Democrats value “choice” over life.
God, help us! This is infanticide, pure and simple.
How have we come to this in America? I’ll tell you. …
We have forgotten God, and the negligent murder of innocent newborns is only one unimaginable consequence.
Our culture’s movers and shakers have been working for several decades to convince a large and influential segment of our society to utterly reject the God of the Bible, the One whose invisible hand made America the greatest nation in history.
These secular progressives are constantly telling us through every cultural institution that unrestrained, selfish, personal freedom is the path to a brighter future for America.
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln recognized the same arrogance in his generation and called for a day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer. His official proclamation said:
[W]e have forgotten God.We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Despite what progressives believe, rejecting God has brought deep division and moral decline that could lead to the downfall of our great nation. It has happened to other nations in history, and we err if we believe it cannot happen here.
But in the meantime, I beg you to recommit to doing all you can do to challenge the dominant godless culture and convince all who will listen that when we honor our Creator, blessing comes to our nation. Likewise, when we reject His wisdom in favor of our own hubris, we can expect this great experiment in democracy to fail.
The Bible says it succinctly in Proverbs 16:18: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
So, what can you do? Well, actually, you can do a lot.
Your support of AFA keeps our message and mission on the airwaves, in print, on the Internet, and in award-winning video documentaries.
In short, your prayers and financial contributions enable AFA to reach tens of thousands of families daily who look to us for leadership on the great moral issues of our day.
In addition, I believe one of the most significant things AFA does is offer supporters like you valuable tools and resources to fight the good fight. To show our appreciation for your support, just in recent months we have offered:
▶ An 80-page prayer journal.
▶ The Pilgrim’s Progress DVD and storybook.
▶ A DVD presentation titled George Washington: Man of Providence.
▶ Unleashing the Wisdom of God, a four-CD study of the book of Proverbs.
▶ A 2020 prayer guide.
I urge you to always request and use the valuable resources we offer to you each month. If you haven’t done so before, then start by requesting this month’s offer.
As you know, on Memorial Day (May 25) we honor those who gave their lives to secure our freedom. Such examples of selfless duty are the polar opposite of today’s “progressive” aspirations.
That’s why, in appreciation for your generous support of AFA, I want to send you the second book in AFA’s children’s book series, The Covenant Creek Kids. It’s titled Memorial Day With Granddaddy Meek and was written by Whitney White. The series intertwines our nation’s history with the values of faith, family, and community.
To give you a flavor of the children’s book, here’s an excerpt from an AFA Journal article about the book:
Dismayed that his great-grandchildren are unaware of such an important American holiday, Granddaddy Meek takes Brennan and Addison to visit a mysterious place they’ve never been before. Despite their fears, he once again brings history to life and teaches them another lesson they will never forget.
I believe we do well by our children and grandchildren when we promote such noble stories and examples like the book includes. It should be part of our legacy to them. So, please, use the enclosed gift slip and postage-paid envelope to request Memorial Day With Granddaddy Meek today.
In closing, let me say again, despite a culture that grows steadily more hostile to Jesus Christ, at AFA we are not ashamed to call ourselves Christians.
We’ve made that clear for over 40 years, and if God gives us the grace to do so, we will continue for the next 40 years. I only ask that you stand with us.
