Pastor Saeed Abedini, an American who had been in an Iranian jail for more than three years because of his Christian faith is now free!
Pastor Abedini converted to Christianity in Iran before moving to the United States in 2005, and he became a citizen in 2010. He was arrested in 2012 while visiting Iran to help build a nonsectarian orphanage. Iranian officials said he was a national security threat because of his faith in Jesus Christ and sentenced him to eight years in jail often enduring torture for his Christian faith.
Through the AFA Action Alert, hundreds of thousands of emails, letters and phone calls flooded the State Department, members of Congress and President Obama during his time in prison.
Abedini began his flight home Sunday after a stop in Switzerland, along with Washington Post Reporter Jason Rezaian and former U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati.
"This has been an answer to prayer," Pastor Abedini's wife stated after hearing the news that her husband was returning home. "This is a critical time for me and my family. We look forward to Saeed’s return and want to thank the millions of people who have stood with us in prayer during this most difficult time."
Like Saeed's wife, I want to thank you too! Regardless of the publicly stated reasons for his release, we know that God has answered the prayers of His people.
I urge you to join us in a daily prayer walk.
Never before in the history of our country has America faced a moral crisis like the one before us today. The foundations of our government are crumbling right before our eyes. Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles.
There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ. If we are to see restoration, it will come only by the grace of God. We have the assurance of Scripture that "if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us" (1 John 5:14).
There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying His own word back to Him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture.
Thank you again for praying for Pastor Saeed Abedini. We thank God for his grace and mercy!
