Americans must fear God and obey Him if we are to prosper – or even survive. That’s what the Founding Fathers thought, anyway.
We are not only approaching another Thanksgiving but another election, and many Christians understand that this election might very well be the most critical election since prior to the start of the Civil War.
That is why AFA is calling for a time of reflection, prayer, and fasting in the week leading up to the national and state elections on November 8.
On Tuesday, November 1, which is a week before the country votes, AFA Action will present a “Pray and Vote Special,” beginning at 5 p.m. central time. The program will air live on AFR.net and across all AFR radio stations, and a live video stream will be carried at AFAAction.net.
The call to prayer is part of a pattern that was begun by the founding generations. On October 3, 1789, for example, George Washington, our first president, issued a Thanksgiving Proclamation. It noted, in part:
“[I]t is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor …. [W]e may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; …. to enable us all … to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue ….”
The “Pray and Vote Special” will be hosted by AFA president Tim Wildmon and executive vice president Ed Vitagliano. The program will be a time of discussion about the importance of the 2016 election and a time of prayer.
In addition, AFR regulars like Sandy Rios, AFA’s director of governmental affairs and host of “Sandy Rios in the Morning,” AFA Action director Rob Chambers, as well as guests like evangelist Franklin Graham, Dr. James Dobson, and others will round out the program.
AFA is also asking supporters to sign a petition committing to pray and fast on the day before the election – Monday, November 7. (Read more here.)
