Senator Mitch McConnell recently announced that the Obamacare "repeal and replace" bill did not have the votes to pass. Instead, Senator McConnell is calling for the Senate to consider the 2015 Obamacare "partial repeal" legislation passed by Congress but vetoed by President Obama.
As part of the Obamacare repeal efforts, AFA has insisted that Planned Parenthood be defunded and any funding to abortion providers be prohibited. AFA has also maintained the position that Obamacare should be repealed 100% or "root and branch," as Republicans touted on the campaign trail.
The partial repeal afforded by the 2015 bill is a starting point. While AFA may not agree with every detail of this legislation, it is a real "discussion draft" that allows the GOP to advance toward a full repeal of Obamacare.
Urge your senators to push for a clean repeal of Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, and ban any funding to abortion providers. Three Republicans, Senators Capito (WV), Collins (ME), and Murkowski (AK) have defected to the Democrats in the fight to keep Obamacare. Make sure your senators don't join them.
The 2015 partial repeal Senator McConnell is now considering rolled back much of Obamacare, including Medicaid expansion, insurance subsidies, and the individual and employer mandates. The bill did not repeal Obamacare's rules and regulations that increased insurance premiums and healthcare costs.
It is time for Senator McConnell to put a 100% Obamacare repeal bill to a floor vote. If Democrats and a handful Republicans want to vote against a clean repeal, causing Obamacare to remain, then so be it. Let the chips fall where they may. This way the good people of America can decide in future elections if they like their senators' vote to keep Obamacare.
