Who Will Take Paul Ryan's Place?

DAILY STAND EMAIL
Monday, April 16, 2018 @ 12:49 PM Who Will Take Paul Ryan's Place? Walker Wildmon Vice President of Operations MORE

This past week House speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) announced that he will be retiring after his current term which ends in January. I have called on the speaker to resign from his post numerous times because of his failure to fight for conservative principles.

On multiple occasions, Paul Ryan pledged to build the border wall, defund Planned Parenthood, and repeal Obamacare. Specifically, in January of 2017, Speaker Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) pledged $12 to $15 billion for the border wall.

How much of this legislation became law? None.

Speaker Ryan, along with the Democrats, passed wasteful spending legislation on several occasions. The most recent spending bill was over $1.3 trillion. This bill continued funding America’s largest abortion provider Planned Parenthood, failed to fund President Trump’s border wall, and continued to add a reckless amount of money to our nation’s debt.

Not many days after Ryan announced his retirement, he signaled that he would endorse Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to succeed him. The problem with this is that Rep. McCarthy will continue the trend of weak leadership and caving to Democrats demands at the first sign of resistance. How do we know this? Various conservative groups have scored McCarthy’s voting record with a score of 100 being the most conservative voting record. Each group decides which legislation to score which explain the variation in scores. Let’s look at his voting record.

According to AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, McCarthy scored 78 out of 100. The publication Conservative Review, listed the congressman with a score of 36 out of 100. Lastly, Heritage Action gave McCarthy a 43 out of 100.

It is unknown when the race for the speakership will be. Some reports suggest it will be several months out and others say it could be within the next few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if the elites in Washington tried to rush through their hand-picked candidate to become the next speaker. Conservative groups must make their constituents aware of this upcoming battle so that each voter can make his/her voice heard on the topic.

If America wants more wasteful spending bills and to continue funding groups who perform abortions then encourage your representative to elect someone like Kevin McCarthy as the next House speaker.

If you’re tired of the status quo in Washington and you want a house speaker who will fight for conservative values and help President Trump drain the swamp, then let your congressman know that.

Often, conservatives complain about what is going on in Washington but now is the time to make a positive impact.
