The Biblical Case for Cultural Engagement

America is in serious spiritual trouble, and Christians no longer have the luxury of staying out of the fray when it comes to public policy and moral issues.

Unless the followers of Christ recommit to being salt and light in our communities, our nation will be totally given over to godless secularism…and sooner rather than later.

But the sad fact is that far too many are not arming themselves with biblical weapons for battle. Many don't even seem to be reading their Bibles or hearing trustworthy preaching and teaching. Is it any wonder that secular culture is influencing Christians more than Christians are influencing the culture?

A recent survey from Barna Group found that 51% of churchgoers don't even know the term Great Commission! Of course, the Great Commission refers to the mandate that Jesus gave to His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15.

Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation (Mark 16:15).

How can there be such widespread ignorance about our mission to reach the world for Christ? That’s certainly no way to prevent a secular takeover of this nation. Even more ominously, the Barna survey found that only 10% of churchgoing Millennials said that they have "heard of and remember the Great Commission." That's alarming! Only 1 in 10 young people age 22-37 know the central mission of the church.

Another shocking stat about that age group has potentially tragic consequences for the nation of Israel. According to a recent study released on Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day, 4 in 10 Millennials in the U.S. don’t know 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. Staggeringly, 22% have never even heard of or are unsure if they've heard of that event, according to the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Let's remember that the Holocaust was a demonic war against the Jewish people. Some estimates say fully a third of the world's Jews were murdered.

Have we reached the point at which Christian values such as liberty, equality, respect, and the sacredness of human life no longer carry weight in American society? Have these eternal truths been replaced by political correctness?

This alarming state of affairs is why AFA has produced a short but powerful video in our Cultural Institute series titled, The Biblical Case for Cultural Engagement. Produced by American Family Studios, the 30-minute presentation features AFA general counsel and public policy analyst Rev. Abraham Hamilton III.  Below is a small sample from the video:

Abraham is one of the bright, rising stars in the pro-family movement. An in-demand speaker as a representative for AFA, he speaks with a prophetic voice. He makes a strong scriptural case for Christian activism – being salt and light. You will benefit greatly from this message.

The Biblical Case for Cultural Engagement asks and answers such important questions as:

  • What does it mean to be salt and light?
  • Why does spiritual darkness prevail in a culture?
  • Can the moral decay in America be reversed?
  • What does the Great Commission have to do with cultural engagement?

I believe Christian activism is critically important to our nation's future. Abraham's presentation may be the most compelling case for Christian activism that I have ever heard, so if you can, please get the 5-pack of DVDs to spread this urgent message to others.

When you support AFA, you are supporting a ministry that has consistently fought against spiritual rot and darkness for more than 40 years. We are praying and fighting with you for the soul of America. Please, stay in that fight with us. And please pray with me that God would bless our efforts and once again turn our nation back to Him.
