Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Jack Phillips, a Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding ceremony.

In the case, Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, Alliance Defending Freedom, representing Phillips, asked the high court to balance the religious rights of the baker against the couple’s right to equal treatment under the law.

AFA sent several alerts to supporters. In December, we asked you to pray specifically for this case as it was heard before the Court. See the December 2017 alert here. See the September 2017 alert here.

Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colo., would not bake a cake for the wedding celebration of two homosexual men in 2012. Phillips told the couple that he would make a birthday cake but could not make a cake that would promote same-sex marriage due to his religious beliefs.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in favor of Phillips and more importantly the First Amendment. The high court specifically rebuked the Colorado Commission for its demonstrable venomous hostility toward Phillips' Christian beliefs in handing down their decision. This is an important day for all who value liberty in general and religious liberty in particular. We applaud the Supreme Court’s decision.

I want to thank you for supporting Jack with your prayers and action throughout this injustice. Together, and with God’s help, we are making a difference.
