Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God?

“Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God.”

Benjamin Franklin proposed this as the motto for the Great Seal of the United States describing a picture of Moses standing on the shore with his hand extended over the Red Sea to show Pharoah being overwhelmed by God's power. Thomas Jefferson used the motto on his personal seal because he liked it so much.

Franklin proposed this knowing not just on America’s history with King George the III’s monarchy but also on the patterns of history. He knew tyrants continually attack God-granted personal liberties and rights. Just a few of these are described in the Declaration of Independence as "...certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

If lies were used to attack these and other unalienable rights, then this motto would have reminded us we have the choice to forgive or forego their leadership – to keep or kick out.

America as a nation would not exist without its Judeo-Christian foundation and acknowledgment of God. When God is not acknowledged, too many begin to think the government is god.

There are at least three quotes to consider related to what has happened to America since the major lie of “15 days to flatten the curve” was sold to a fearful public by Dr. Anthony Fauci and others. It was offered as the panacea for the pandemic and was a lie used as a tool of tyranny.

“No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes” (Psalm 101:7 ESV).

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.” C.S. Lewis

“All tyrannies rule through fraud and force, but once the fraud is exposed they must rely exclusively on force.” George Orwell

Force now comes into larger play as lies and fraud continue to be exposed. What else are tyrants to do?

Force. Social pressure, technological pressure, and legal pressure. They continue to restrict our freedoms unless we comply. They threaten our travel. They threaten our jobs. They even have threatened our ability to purchase items. They threaten and cajole influence points, like employers with greater than 100 people, in order to get as many as possible to obey or else.

Whether we freely choose or choose out of forced pressure, they will squeeze our freedoms out of us as they squeeze the shot into us. Force, lies, and fraud kill our freedom. In “Vaccine Mandate Sticks it to Freedom” Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, wrote:

“When Joe Biden looked into the camera and told us that we had lost the right to make our own health care decisions, no buildings exploded, no lives were lost. But it was still an attack on America and our core values. In many ways, it has the potential to do what 9/11 didn’t: destroy the free foundations of our country.”

The Great Seal of the United States’ approved motto, "E Pluribus Unum," alludes to the many states uniting as one, the federal government. It simply means “From Many, One.”

Thirteen states were united into one three-tiered federal government limited by checks and balances. America had already escaped one monarchy through war and created a structure to prevent another through the Constitution.

Unfortunately, President Joe Biden has gone rogue.

I hate writing this. Let me ask, though, doesn’t the definition of “unprincipled, deceitful, and unreliable person; a scoundrel or rascal” fit nearly skin tight? He is the direct opposite of what God's Word advises for our leaders (see here).

I love this country and even served in the U.S. Army Reserves. But America may soon exist in name only unless we pray and act according to God’s guidance.

Instead of keeping his sworn oath to uphold the Constitution, Biden acts as if he is a monarch.

He has vowed to use the full force of the federal government to browbeat, bully, or brutalize the governors and citizens of the states through a variety of means – especially presumed authority not legally granted and mandates.

Blogs like “There Is No American Monarchy” should not have to be written! The governors of states should not receive threats from President Biden if they don’t “comply.”

These might be some of the reasons we see multiple state leaders pushing back and quoted in blogs like “More Than Half of US States Vow to Fight Biden’s Vaccine Mandate.” These are the many speaking to the one. The federal government forgets its existence is by the grace of God and the states who have granted it the power to be used faithfully. God is so important in this that our many state constitutions mention Him over 200 times!

Governor Henry McMaster (R) of South Carolina described exactly what has been happening:

“The American Dream has turned into a nightmare under President Biden and the radical Democrats. They have declared war against capitalism, thumbed their noses at the Constitution, and empowered our enemies abroad. Rest assured, we will fight them to the gates of hell to protect the liberty and livelihood of every South Carolinian.”

The attacks on personal liberties come from many areas, and America's citizens are not alone in having unalienable rights attacked.

In “Why Freedom is in Serious Jeopardy,” a nationally syndicated radio and talk show host, Dennis Prager, wrote:

“There is a three-pronged left-wing assault on liberty: in the name of public health (COVID-19); in the name of “anti-racism”; and in the name of saving the planet (climate change). By ratcheting up fear and hysteria, the Left is using each to end individual liberty, including freedom of speech, for the first time in American history.”

Prager’s prognosis and diagnosis for America look at what is happening around the world, including Australia.

“In many arenas of life,” Prager writes, “most Australians have fewer rights than Soviet citizens did.” Even Soviet citizens could leave their homes, speak with those on the street, and visit dying relatives in hospitals.

Does any of this sound familiar to those here in America who’ve heard “15 days to flatten the curve” as the foot in the door that now stomps freedom?

In Ephesians 5:10 we are told to discern what is pleasing to the Lord, but it is in Proverbs 6:16-19 where God describes what He hates and what will bring His judgment: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands shedding innocent blood, hearts devising wicked schemes, feet quick to rush to evil, false witnesses pouring out lies, and those stirring up conflict in a community. Why do these apply to all we've seen lately?

This president who vowed to create unity, those helping him, and other world leaders and influencers after our unalienable rights should fear God.

Even if God allows them to temporarily gain all the power and control they want, Jesus knew what to say to them in Mark 8:36, "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?" Some aren't concerned about their souls even as they doubt God's existence, yet others who are should visit "God Has a Gift for You."

Let the followers of Christ remain faithful to Him while remembering meek doesn't mean weak. Meek references power under control that is ready to act when called upon. Let us rely on God's faithfulness and power while practicing Proverbs 21:31, "The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD."
