When my dad began AFA in 1977 (originally as the National Federation for Decency), the word woke only referred to waking up from sleep! After leading a little campaign at his church, which caught on nationwide, he became deeply concerned about sex, violence, and profanity on network TV. He began to see a worldview – something he called “secular humanism” – behind it all.
While the term secular humanism may not register much for people nowadays, at the time, it was a helpful way of recognizing a consistent viewpoint that opposes God, minimizes Christian involvement in society, and sees human beings as the gods of this world. This worldview impacts how a person thinks about culture, sexuality, politics, religion, and even the nature of humanity itself. Today, we might call it “being woke.”
AFA’s important new documentary, Culture Warrior: Don Wildmon and the Battle for Decency reveals how we got to this point, and it does so in a way that makes you want to stand up and fight today! Our filmmaking team at American Family Studios did a fantastic job of bringing out the details and big-picture principles of those culture-war battles that were fought decades ago. It really takes you back to that time!
When I read about what President Trump’s administration is doing to combat frivolous government spending, I can’t help but think back to the early 1990s, when AFA alerted senators and congressmen to what the National Endowment for the Arts was doing with taxpayer funds.
When I read about sex trafficking and child exploitation being fed through companies like PornHub, I remember AFA’s fight against convenience-store pornography in the 1980s – raising the same concerns about the tragic impact of pornography on women and children.
When I read about the LGBTQ insanity taking over society in schools, government policies, and corporate priorities, I recall how AFA tried to warn Americans that Disney and other like-minded corporations were going to do great harm by normalizing homosexuality.
All of those things really happened, and they are all covered in the movie Culture Warrior.
It’s easy to forget where we’ve been as a nation … and it’s alarming to realize that the things we see now have been with us for many years. It shows that there still is so much work to be done.
Please take some time to watch Culture Warrior for FREE today at culturewarrior.movie, and join the fight as AFA continues its stand for righteousness in a hostile culture.
