Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter (Isaiah 5:20).

They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood (Psalm 106:37-38).

Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work? (Proverbs 24:12).

In 1973, when the Roe v. Wade decision was handed to our nation by the Supreme Court, it was obviously a major turning point in our nation and culture.

A very important question for all of us to ask is “What exactly did the Roe v. Wade decision do? What statement did it make? What could now happen after it was decided, that couldn’t happen before?

A woman now had the legal “right” to kill her own child. Whether people were willing to admit it and use this terminology or not, she now could legally murder her own baby in her womb.

Tragically, the Roe v. Wade decision made the murder of a baby in the womb legal.

Yet, God’s Word clearly tells us and the world, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).

So, the Supreme Court’s actions directly violated the Word of God.

Wicked individuals can always come up with “justification” to do what they want to do.  They can manufacture “valid” reasons to do terrible things in the name of “helping” certain others.

Too often, people with evil intent can manufacture “rights” where no rights exist.

Sadly, in our nation’s history, when the tragic reality of slavery existed legally in our nation, there were many who had concluded that there were justifications for its existence.

“Blacks folks are better off in slavery.”  “They are happy as slaves.” “They couldn’t manage on their own.”

These were just a few of the things that were sometimes stated as to why slavery was a “good” thing.

Yet, today we are willing to clearly admit that many of these “thoughts” were absolutely ridiculous.

Too many felt that the goal of ending slavery would destroy the economy of the South. And many believed that the federal government was infringing on their state's “rights” to own slaves.

It really is sad to consider the ways the human heart can “justify” most any wrong to get what it wants.

In Nazi Germany, a similar tragedy happened. The Nazis sought to justify their efforts to exterminate the Jews by saying that they were only defending their nation against Jewish plans to destroy Germany and the German people.*

Propaganda and other tools of persuasion were effectively used to communicate this tragic and very deceptive and wicked message.

Thus, many concluded that Germany had valid reasons to get rid of the Jews.

Another important ingredient in these situations was that the majority had the power and influence to enforce their wicked agendas.  And because they had the power, they took away the “rights” of those that they chose to oppress.

They created for themselves the “right” to enslave and eliminate those who were the objects of their disdain or oppression. And they removed the “rights” of those who were being oppressed.

Thus, slavery happened in our nation and the Holocaust happened in Nazi Germany.

Tragically, in considering the issues of life and abortion today, many of the same demonic ways of thinking and acting have been passionately at work.

People who were already “born” decided through a Supreme Court decision, that those who are not yet born have no “rights.”  They deceptively stated, in essence, that these precious children were not “persons” and therefore had no “rights.”

Very much like in the other two mentioned circumstances, words, semantics, and deceptive persuasion were used to encourage people to do what they knew was against the Word and will of God.

The Word of God had the correct answer to this issue long before Roe v. Wade was decided. Again, God’s Word says “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).

Roe v. Wade should have never happened. And it is a decision that is long overdue to be overturned.

May we as the church rise up in prayer, courage, strength, and determination and do all that we can to end legalized abortion in our nation and world.

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (see Philippians 4:13). Let us rise up in His strength and get the job done.
