Sorting Out Truth and Lies Like Wheat and Chaff

“… You got to vote, vote, vote, vote, vote,” said Joe Biden in his interview with Now This News. “We need a couple more democrats in the Senate.”

During the Trump era, my family would gather around to watch his rallies. We loved his grand plan for our country and got tickled at his dance moves. Earlier this week, I found myself bombarded on every social media site with clips from the above interview in what I could only assume was one of Biden’s last-ditch rallies to catch the voters in my age bracket (20-30).

And before I say any more, it should be noted that according to sources listed on Wikipedia, “Now This News” is a progressive, left-leaning company that aims at creating emotion-driven content for those mindlessly scrolling on social media sites.

On Sunday night, Biden sat with six young adults (ages 15, 20, 20, 25, 26, and 46) to address the “most pressing” issues facing young people. The goal? “To give young voters a deeper understanding of what’s at stake this November.”

The talking points included economic stability, criminal justice reform, gun safety, climate change, abortion access, and trans rights. And before each individual spoke to the president, the media company played a short emotional clip explaining the situation and the individual’s scenarios and experiences.

Up first was a sister of a Sandy Hook victim. Don’t get me wrong. I can’t deny the fact that this 2012 shooting was horrendous. But in the middle of her questions, the girl made a claim that made my ears perk up. She said she felt the need to “… prioritize this issue as the United States has suffered over 4,000 mass shootings since the one that took my brother’s life.”

Excuse me, did she say 4,000 mass shootings in the last ten years? Surely not.

According to the website Everytown which focuses on supporting gun safety, since 2009, there have been 284 mass shootings in the United States which resulted in 1599 deaths and 1050 individuals who were shot and wounded. Hmm. Interesting, isn’t it? Surely Biden would correct the error, right?

Wrong.

He said,

“For every mass shooting you read about, like that happened at [Sandy Hook], for every single one of those, there’s a mass shooting taking place every day in a neighborhood. You know, we got 4,000 of these things. And I mean, they never get mentioned, but in tough neighborhoods there are mass shootings every single day….and it’s wrong. It’s just simply wrong.”

He also claimed, “I visited every mass shooting site, that has occurred in a number of years.”

All 4,000 of them? But, Mr. President, how do you have any time left on your hands?

I digress.

Next up was the topic of economic instability. Here, we were introduced to a girl who had grown up with a cancer-ridden brother and was burdened by the fact that she would have to pay her own college tuition. After facing such a family emergency, she said, “The burden of my college debt is on me, and that is daunting. Having any amount forgiven is a weight lifted that gives us more hope.”

This whining makes me sick. Truly. I have been overseas and seen children walk for hours to go to school and buy their own books. That is daunting. Having the opportunity to go to college anywhere is a blessing. For years and years, individuals have worked hard to pay off their loans and earn their degrees. It wasn’t handed to them on a silver platter. Why should it be any different now?

Biden answered her plea by saying, “I got it passed by a vote or two; it’s in effect. Already, I think it’s now a total of 13 million people have applied for that service.”

Really? Because just yesterday, when I researched this debt relief plan, I was met with a banner saying, “Application is open, but debt discharge is paused. As a result of a court order, we are temporarily blocked from processing debt discharges.”

I literally laughed out loud. What exactly did you pass, kind sir? Because it looks to me like nothing more than a broken midterm talking point.

But I have to say, out of all the topics discussed, none stood out more than the “trans rights” mentioned by Mr. Dylan Mulvaney. TikTok influencer. Dylan, born a male (and still has all of his boy parts), documents his “days of girlhood” as he lives life as a girl.

In fact, Dylan’s first words to the president were, “Mr. President, this is my 221st day of publicly transitioning.” To which Biden responded with a chuckle, “God love you.”

The most significant talking point was how some state lawmakers involve themselves in these “personal process[es].” He then asked the president, “Do you think states should have the right to ban gender-affirming care?”

Drum roll, please.

“I don’t think any state or anybody should have the right to do that. As a moral question, and a legal question, I think it’s just wrong,” the president responded.

Is it wrong to speak out against child abuse? And hormones that destroy these individuals’ bodies? No. Mr. President, what’s wrong is agreeing that it’s okay to let children (who aren’t old enough to drive, vote, or drink) decide to mutilate their bodies. It’s wrong to consider it normal that a man can do the same thing my female body can do. It’s unfair to condone such behavior and force it on those with opposing views. It’s all wrong and topsy-turvy, but who cares about that?

That was only three of the six interviewees but you can check the rest of them out for yourself. Here’s my issue. When it’s all said and done, that interview was filled with lies and deception. Its aim was for social media users around my age, and to be honest, it offended me.

I don’t know what your momma taught you, but mine was pretty adamant that lying was wrong. And over the years, I’ve found it to be true – no one likes a liar. Yet, here we are with a president making false claims, and a generation believing every last word.

When did we become content believing a lie? But better yet, why did it become okay to stop researching the truth? When did we become lazy? Why did it become normal to slowly slink down in our seats and avoid conversations about what we believe?

I get it. At times, it feels like a losing battle. With top-named social media sites targeting us, corporations screaming, and everyone’s raging emotions, it’s hard to share our political opinions. Actually, a lot of the time, I cower and just sit there with my mouth shut. But recently, my eyes have been opened to the importance of sharing the truth, both politically and scripturally.

Here are the scriptural truths I know and what I choose to believe as new outlets continue to spew falsehoods and fabrications.

So, what about:

When individuals want to harm children through means of “trans surgery?”

It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin (Luke 17:1-2).

When they roar about women’s rights and demand that the child in its mother’s womb is nothing more than a “fetus?”

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well. your eyes saw my unformed body (Psalm 139:13).

When the world denies the truth about marriage?

Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).

When inflation rises, and I am unsure how to take care of my family?

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34).

When I’m told that anyone can be anything or any gender they desire?

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27).

-----------------------------------------------

And finally, it’s important to remember that this world is not our home and that the enemy is loud and proud. However, I pray that we would be known for our courage, knowledge, and the truth found in God’s Word.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
