He Knows My Name

My sister and I used to be frequent concert-goers. Sure enough, we would beg to see our favorite artists when they came within driving distance. And without fail, my parents would take us.

My mom and dad would often drive for three hours to get us to a show, wait on us in the car, drive another three hours home into the wee hours of the morning, and then my dad would head back to work with little sleep. As a working adult, I cherish their selflessness more now than ever.

One night, we went to a small venue in the middle of nowhere to see one of our favorite artists perform. To our surprise, when we arrived, the gathering was so small that we could stand next to the edge of the stage.

And after the concert, he even held a free meet and greet! As teenagers, we thought we’d died and gone to heaven.

Years later, that night is nothing but a memory.

From that short meeting, I guarantee that the artist doesn’t remember who I am. If I passed him on the street, he would have no idea that I once waited in a line as a high schooler, hoping for a chance to meet him. But the lesson I learned was worth more than any autograph or photo.

After the excitement waned, I had an epiphany. As much as I admired that singer, he would never even know my name.

But God did.

You see, when it comes to serving the God of the universe, status quo makes no difference. And that concert-going instance made me realize that we often give people too much credit. In our crazy culture, it's easy to emphasize the status, actions, or words of certain people. But somewhere along the way, we think what "they" do is more important than what the Creator of the universe has already done.

News flash! It’s a lie straight from Satan.

If the enemy can get us thinking that we aren’t worthy enough for His love, he thinks we won’t focus on the will of our Father.

But we serve a God who knows our name!

He isn’t some superstar we must dream of someday meeting. No, He loves that my name is Hannah Meador, and He knew it would be before I was even born.

In Psalm 139, Scripture teaches us more about His thoughts. Examples include but aren’t limited to:

  • Knowing our thoughts and movements,
  • Knowing what we’ll say before we say it,
  • Knowing who we were while still in the womb.

What power and majesty!

He sees you.

He knows you.

He loves you.

If you carry a heavy weight today, take it to the One on the throne. Regardless of what you’ve done, He still chooses to love you relentlessly.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. (Psalm 139:7-12)
