It is a sad reality when any group of persons are oppressed. It is a tragedy whenever a group has been unjustly misused, abused, looked down upon and killed. It is especially tragic when the group is in a situation where they cannot speak for themselves.
Sadly, this is very much the case in our culture for children in the womb–unborn babies. In our culture, children in the womb are considered “non–persons”. In our culture, a child in the womb can be legally killed at the wish of the parents.
Some would argue, “babies in the womb are not a race of people”. Why not? They have been denied basic human rights much like the Jews in Nazi Germany, women in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, and African-Americans from the founding of our nation up to through the 1960’s. Certain individuals decided that they have no rights. Again, this is tragic, unjust and wrong.
Additionally, unlike these other groups, babies cannot speak for themselves, cannot run away, can’t march for their rights, and cannot take a stand or protest on their own behalf.
The Word of God says “Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously and plead the cause of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:8,9). And in Proverbs 24:11 and 12, we are told “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Surely we did not know this', does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?”
Great is the need for believers, individually, and for the Church collectively to stand boldly for the lives of unborn children in the womb. We must stand up and demand that their civil rights be respected and protected. They cannot speak up for themselves! We, the Church of Jesus Christ must boldly and aggressively stand up and speak up for them! We must speak up, we must pray for the ending of abortion, we must vote for the leaders who will boldly stand for life and against the evil of abortion. Let the people of God courageously stand for the civil rights of the unborn in the womb.
