AFA’s Urban Family Communications Ministers Reconciliation in Face of Racial Tension

As violence took hold in Baltimore, bringing to memory the recent violence stemming from the tragedies in Ferguson, Mo. and New York, America was again reminded that racial tension remains a deep concern in the nation.

Believing the mission of Christians is one of reconciliation, the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net)has been nurturing a new area of ministry, Urban Family Communications (UFC, www.urbanfamilytalk.com)to come alongside faithful pastors and leaders in the Black community with the purpose of strengthening Black Christians and their communities. UFC is a multi-media communications network and outreach ministry, born of the conviction that the Black community deserves truth and, more specifically, biblical truth.

Headed by husband-and-wife team Wil and Meeke Addison, UFC has already attracted a loyal listenership both in the seven markets in which it airs on radio and via online airing at www.urbanfamilytalk.com. Listeners can also download the mobile app, available for both Android and iPhone, to listen on their mobile devices.

“Our community’s highest allegiance is often to the color of our skin when it should be to God,” noted Wil Addison, Director of UFC. “Our mission at UFC is to inform and empower Black families to grow into mature disciples by wisely applying biblical truth to our issues and interests. In short, we stand for truth, wisdom and empowerment.”

Added Meeke Addison, UFC’s Director of Communications, “Urban Family Talk is becoming a safe haven for Black American Christians who have not had a voice in the traditional media.”

In addition to leading UFC, Wil and Meeke Addison also host “Airing the Addisons,” Urban Family Talk’s morning show which airs weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. ET and tackles topics including marriage, the Church, current events and pop culture.

“Like so many Americans, I long for the day when peace reigns in our nation, in our cities, in our families and in our hearts,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “And I agree fully with Wil and Meeke that healing our differences will be possible only as we apply the gospel to the issues that divide us. Urban Family Communications is committed to doing just this.”

In addition to “Airing the Addisons,” programs on UFC include:

  • “BSAC (Biblically Sound Artist Coalition) Radio Show,” which is a platform for artists who desire to combine their efforts and resources in pursuit of originating God-focused music and art for the body of Christ.
  • “The Hour of Intercession” with Pastor Joseph Parker, a daily program that covers topics of prayer, intercession and the Word of God and features interviews with pastors and religious leaders.
  • “Freedom’s Journal,” hosted by Lonnie Poindexter, which takes an in-depth look at the effects of liberal ideology on the African-American community and aims to replace long-held lies and deception with sound biblical principles that point the African-American community back to a moral and free society.
  • “Up Together” with Cortney Westbrook, the “People’s Entrepreneur,” which is a motivational, people-building radio program dedicated to helping action-minded individuals succeed in life. The program is rooted in the conviction that the only way to solve issues facing the African-American community is with practical, biblical solutions.

AFA offers its friends and supporters several mobile apps. The AFA Action Alerts app, with breaking news and action alerts, is available for the iPhone and iPad on the Apple App Store, on Google Play and on the Amazon Appstore for Android. The AFR (American Family Radio) app is available for Apple and Android products, and the AFA Action app with, for example, voter information at election time, is available on Apple and Android platforms.
