3 Reasons Christians Should Close Their Wells Fargo Accounts

Monday, June 15, 2015 @ 11:14 AM

TUPELO, Miss.—Wells Fargo already lost a multi-million-dollar customer last week. Now, the bank can expect to lose a few more.

American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) has sent an Action Alert to its hundreds of thousands of friends and supporters, urging Christians to close their Wells Fargo accounts, as the financial institution becomes an even more staunch supporter of the LGBT lifestyle.

“For years, Wells Fargo has supported a lifestyle that is not in line with biblical standards, so now it's time for Christians to pull their business from the bank,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “Franklin Graham said it best. Banks should focus on interest rates and charges, rather than moral and social issues. AFA wholeheartedly agrees, and is calling on Christians to stand for God's truth with action."

In its alert, AFA reminded readers that in 2003, AFA warned that Wells Fargo was beginning to show public support for homosexuality—one of the first companies in America to do so. Then in 2005, Dr. James Dobson and Focus on the Family announced it was withdrawing funds from Wells Fargo after the company threw its support behind homosexual activist organizations.

And last month, Wells Fargo began airing a one-minute commercial featuring two lesbians adopting a little girl. In response, Franklin Graham announced last week that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse would be finding another bank as well.

In a Facebook post, Graham cited the “tide of moral decay that is being crammed down our throats by big business, the media, and the gay & lesbian community.” His post also called out jeweler Tiffany & Co. for advertising wedding rings for same-sex couples.

According to AFA's alert, "Wells Fargo's history follows a pattern that it has not wavered from. Over the past few years, Wells Fargo has marched in scores of 'Gay Pride Parades,' advertised monthly in gay magazines and websites, and has endorsed 'Gay Pride Month.'" Wells Fargo has also earned the Human Rights Campaign's highest award for 13 years in a row.

AFA is urging Christians to contact Wells Fargo to let them know they are closing their accounts as a way to show support for God's standards:

  1. Call Wells Fargo at (415) 396-3300.
  2. Connect with Wells Fargo online via its Facebook page, web site or Twitter feed.
  3. Send an email to Wells Fargo at oscar.suris@wellsfargo.com, with the subject line, "I've drawn the line with Wells Fargo."
