Protecting Life in 2017

Monday, January 09, 2017 @ 08:28 AM

TUPELO, Miss.—In 2017, the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net), one of the nation’s largest pro-family organizations, is committed to defending life and protecting the unborn.

For many years, AFA has been working to educate Americans about the importance of defunding Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the U.S., which is subsidized by the American peoples’ tax dollars.

“The American people are fed up with their hard-earned tax dollars being used to fund an organization that murders innocent babies,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “We pray 2017 will be the year that our government stops funneling millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood and that its gruesome practices aren’t fueled by those who want to protect life.

“While Planned Parenthood does offer other health services to women,” Wildmon added, “there are thousands of women’s health clinics across America that don’t perform abortions, and these clinics could also greatly benefit from financial assistance from the government. Politicians have spoken for years about defunding Planned Parenthood, but have failed to do so. In the past, they’ve blamed President Barack Obama for the gridlock, but with the American people giving Republicans control of the House, Senate and White House, there should be no more excuses.”

As a “parting gift” to Planned Parenthood, President Obama issued a rule banning states from denying federal funds to the organization. This rule will take effect two days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office and just a few days after churches around the nation observe Sanctity of Human Life Sunday on Jan. 15.

According to Planned Parenthood itself, 41 percent of its funding comes from the government, or Americans’ tax dollars, regardless how citizens feel about abortion. (Read more here.)

In addition, according to the Washington Times, “The House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives is calling for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to investigate whether several Planned Parenthood abortion clinics violated federal privacy law.”

AFA is also working diligently to see to it that a pro-life Supreme Court justice will replace the late Antonin Scalia, who passed away on Feb. 13, 2016. Wildmon added that Justice Scalia was an able defender of the unborn and a protector of the sanctity of life on the SCOTUS bench, and his absence is still felt today.
