American Family Association Analyzing Pro-Life Provisions of Senate GOP Health Care Bill
TUPELO, Miss.—American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) President Tim Wildmon issued a statement today regarding the Senate GOP’s Obamacare replacement bill, which was introduced late last week and may be voted upon before the summer recess.
“The American Family Association strongly supports the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death,” Wildmon said. “This fundamental value does not originate from man or government but originates from God. The founders expressed this understanding in the Declaration of Independence, asserting the right to ‘life’ originates from the Creator and cannot be taken away.
“We understand the Senate draft version of the health care bill includes pro-life priorities, but we are keenly aware that the pro-abortion industry is strongly lobbying a Republican-controlled Congress not only to continue funding Planned Parenthood, but also to expand federal funding of abortion,” he added.
AFA will oppose health care legislation that does not include 100 percent Hyde Amendment protections restricting taxpayer funds and tax credit dollars to be used for abortions. AFA also supports the redirection of taxpayer funds away from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Instead, these funds should be allocated to community health centers that do not perform abortions and are not affiliated with the abortion industry, the pro-family organization says.
“We remain hopeful that the U.S. Senate and the House will advance these two essential components protecting life as they debate healthcare legislation,” Wildmon said.
