American Family Association: ‘Unplanned’ May Be the Most Important Movie Americans See This Year

Tuesday, April 2, 2019 @ 4:37 PM

Since its founding in 1977, the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) has worked to alert families about media and entertainment that tear down society. But the pro-family organization also informs families about media that is grounded in important cultural topics.

Such is the case with the much-talked-about film, “Unplanned,” which opened nationwide this past weekend. AFA is featuring several reports on the importance of not only seeing the movie but being aware of some of the censorship its filmmakers have experienced.

“Unplanned” is the inspiring true story of one woman’s journey of transformation. As one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, Abby Johnson was involved in upwards of 22,000 abortions and counseled countless women about their reproductive choices. Her passion surrounding abortion even led her to become a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, fighting to enact legislation for the cause.

That all changed the day she saw something she would never forget—a baby fighting for its life. This led Abby to become one of the most ardent pro-life speakers in America.

“‘Unplanned’ is one of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “Abby was a woman who was deeply involved in Planned Parenthood until God showed her the truth about this evil organization. She left Planned Parenthood and now speaks out on behalf of life. It’s a great story that I’m glad to recommend.”

In a column for AFA, author and radio host Dr. Michael Brown reported that, to the surprise of Hollywood, “Unplanned” opened to more than $6 million in box office receipts, finishing No. 5 in the nation. And it did this while opening in less than 1,100 theaters nationwide.

“More importantly, this powerful, pro-life movie that exposes the evil of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry is making a powerful impact on its viewers,” Brown wrote. “This could truly be a major game-changer in the days ahead.”
