American Family Association: Death of George Floyd Is a Tragedy from Every Angle

TUPELO, Miss.—Unrest continues in Minneapolis, as protests take shape in other cities around the nation, regarding the death of George Floyd. On Friday, one officer was arrested in connection with the incident.

 “The death of George Floyd is a tragedy from every angle,” said American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano. “AFA has been and remains very supportive of law enforcement. They have a very difficult and dangerous job, and the vast majority of these officers conduct themselves with diligence, self-restraint and concern for our communities. However, it is difficult to understand the actions of the four police officers in this case—especially the officer who kept his knee and full weight on the neck of a handcuffed man. AFA supports the investigation into this tragic incident and hopes the truth will prevail.

 “However, while we certainly understand the subsequent anger and frustration of the people of Minneapolis, rioting, looting and burning will only serve to deepen the difficulties of often poorer neighborhoods,” he added. “For example, what if these businesses never return? AFA is encouraging Christians across the nation to be praying for this city in turmoil and to do all they can to help it recover when the chaos ends.”
