American Family Association: Urge Senators to Censure Chuck Schumer Over Threats to SCOTUS
TUPELO, Miss.—Last week, as the U.S. Supreme Court was hearing a pro-life case of a Louisiana law that requires abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital near the abortion clinic, Sen. Chuck Schumer stood outside the Supreme Court building and publicly threatened two of the justices while speaking to a group of abortion supporters.
Because of those actions, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) is calling on its 1 million friends and supporters to urge their senators to vote in favor of censuring Schumer.
“Many took Schumer’s words as inciting possible violence against the justices, should the Court uphold the Louisiana law,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “In a public statement, Chief Justice John Roberts took Schumer to task for his threats, saying they are ‘not only inappropriate, they are dangerous. … All members of the Court will continue to do their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter.’”
Schumer had warned: “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
According to Fox News, Sen. Josh Hawley has continued to call for Schumer to be censured after introducing a resolution in the Senate to do just that. And dozens of well-known conservative leaders have signed a letter adding their voices to the calls.
Co-sponsored by 14 senators, Hawley’s resolution claims Schumer’s comments were “an attempt to unduly influence the judicial decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States…”
“We agree with Hawley,” Wildmon added. “And we agree that Schumer should be censured for his dangerous and inappropriate comments.”
