American Family Association: Polling shows confusion about overturning Roe v. Wade, but persevering pro-lifers look for another win

TUPELO, Miss. — American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net), points out that recent polling about the legality of abortion at the federal level, conducted before the now infamous leak of a draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, shows Americans remain divided on this critical pro-life issue. A poll by ABC News/Washington Post claims 54% of the 1,004 adults polled said Roe should be upheld, but a Fox News poll showed that 54% of more than 1,000 registered voters “believed their state should ban abortions after 15 weeks of gestation, while 41% opposed such a ban.”

The ABC News/Washington Post Poll has been called flawed by a noted pro-life researcher because it failed “to explain that Roe v. Wade effectively legalized abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy,” a policy position that is supported by far fewer “likely voters,” or even “adults.”

“The nation remains split on the subject of abortion, and there is obviously a lack of moral clarity,” said AFA’s Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano. “Americans are all over the place on the topic. But that is precisely the point: Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided by the Supreme Court 50 years ago because the high court had no business deciding the issue. This is for the people in each state to decide for themselves, and that’s one big reason why Roe should be overturned.”
