Research shows that abortion is on the rise in states that still allow it.

Last year, the Guttmacher Institute (GI) implemented an initiative to track abortions happening monthly in America. Its findings revealed that in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned in 2022, abortions drastically decreased in states with abortion bans while exponentially increasing in those that permit it, showcasing the prevalence of women willing to cross state lines to get an abortion.

One ministry that has a heart for these women and their babies is PreBorn. This pro-life ministry is working to ensure that lifesaving options are available to women, wherever they go seeking an abortion. Nationwide, PreBorn has equipped more than 200 ministry-approved network care providers (NCP), all of which are nonprofit pregnancy care centers.

PreBorn’s many NCP clinics offer services, resources, and Christian counseling to parents considering abortion. Currently, the ministry is working toward opening clinics in pro-abortion states, such as New York and California.

“We estimate 10,000 women a year will fly into California from abortion-restrictive states to get their California abortion vacations,” Dan Steiner, PreBorn president and founder, told The Stand. “We’re there [offering] them alternatives.”

Saving babies, saving souls

PreBorn’s mission statement is simple: “To glorify Jesus Christ by leading and equipping pregnancy clinics to save more babies and souls.” To accomplish that goal, PreBorn enlists the help of faithful supporters who fervently pray and give financially to help equip its NCP clinics with resources and ultrasound imaging and machines.

Supporters can “sponsor a baby” for $28 a month, which provides ultrasounds and other essential resources for mothers. For $15,000, donors can “give an ultrasound machine” to an NCP clinic in need.

“That machine will last for 10 years or more, day by day showing women their babies and the truth that it’s not a ball of tissue; it’s not a lump of cells; it is a beating heart and a real life,” Steiner said.

Since its inception in 2006, PreBorn has witnessed numerous women decline an abortion after seeing their child in the womb.

Hope is here

While medical and physical resources make up a large portion of fulfilling PreBorn’s mission, its most important desire is to equip abortion-minded women with the life-changing truth of Scripture.

“PreBorn is the gospel champion of the life movement,” Steiner explained. “We are about the one thing that a woman needs more than anything else in her life, and that is a personal relationship with … Jesus Christ.”

Steiner recalled a story of a couple who came into a PreBorn facility looking to abort. The expectant girl explained to a counselor how it was her boyfriend who wanted her to choose abortion. The counselor used the opportunity to show him a fetal model of a baby the same size as his child in the womb.

“Over the next hour, the counselor introduced them to the One who could heal their past hurts, deliver them from their dilemma, and give them hope for the future,” said Steiner. “They both received Jesus as their Lord and Savior and chose life for that baby.”
