AFA Action celebrates Mississippi Gov. Reeves proclamation to make June ‘Sanctity of Life Month’ in honor of Dobbs
TUPELO, Miss. — On June 13, 2023, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed an official proclamation that June is “Sanctity of Life Month” in the state. On behalf of AFA Action, the government affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, Dr. Jameson Taylor joined other Mississippi pro-life leaders at the signing of the proclamation. Dr. Taylor helped draft the Mississippi law that overturned Roe v. Wade and led the coalition to get it passed.
“Human life is special,” said Dr. Taylor, director of policy and leg. affairs for AFA Action. “People of faith would even say life is sacred because human beings are made in the image of God. Many people have forgotten this basic reality. Instead of our existence and identity being a gift, we are told that we have to make our own identity and create our own meaning. But this is not who we are. This leads to great confusion and anxiety. Our identity and existence are a gift. We are sons and daughters of God.
“It is very dangerous to deny that life is a gift,” continued Dr. Taylor. “It leads to discrimination and hatred of others. It leads to the degradation and destruction of human life. Where human life is respected, governments fear violating human rights. Where human life is protected as sacred, people go an extra mile to help each other. I am thankful Governor Reeves is committed to making Mississippi a better place by reminding all of us that it is the role of government to protect and cherish life.
“Governor Reeves is right to point out that life is a gift worth celebrating. It is also a gift worth fighting for. He knows all about this fight because he helped pass the Mississippi law that overturned Roe v. Wade. I am thankful for his leadership and proud to continue to work with him to protect life — for everyone.”
