AFA: Pastors must teach their congregations to be salt and light in a rotting culture

Monday, March 11, 2024 @ 07:55 AM

TUPELO, Miss. — On the heels of the 2024 election, a recent panel discussion at the Conservative Political Action Conference discussed the role churches play in urging evangelicals to register to vote before upcoming elections. One panelist suggested the “real problem” is that experts cannot find the “low-propensity Christian voter,” the millions of people sitting in churches who do not vote. In an effort to recruit evangelical Christian voters, the panelist urged churches to “register everybody” and “teach them to vote biblical values.”

American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) President Tim Wildmon agrees with this strategy, reinforcing that it is the job of pastors to educate the members of their congregation and urge them to register to vote.

“Those in our culture that hate God, the Bible, and our constitutional principles are certainly mobilizing voters by the thousands to overthrow the foundational values that have blessed America,” says Wildmon. “So, why are Christians so hesitant to get involved? It is up to pastors to teach members of their congregations that part of the Christian life is being salt and light in a culture that is rotting out from beneath us. Moreover, once they’ve been taught, pastors should get them involved –– starting with getting them registered to vote. The time for confusion and apathy is long past; the time for clarity of purpose and righteous activity has come.”
