Still Going Strong Because of the "One Thing That Never Changes"

Still Going Strong Because of the "One Thing That Never Changes" The American Family Association attributes its success to being faithful to the one thing that never changes.
In the midst of this spiritual battle we must put our trust and hope in the one thing that never changes, Christ Jesus. - Walker Wildmon

Today it seems as though many are building their houses on the beach. Initially that sounds great doesn’t it? A beach home with an ocean view.  It doesn’t get much better than that. But what about the foundations for homes built on the beach? It would not take long for the sand and tides to wreak their havoc at the base of the homes putting everything and everyone inside in tremendous jeopardy.

America was founded on the solid rock of God’s word by people of faith and integrity. The founding fathers had a clear and basic understanding of what a God honoring country should look like. From the Mayflower Compact to the Declaration of Independence to the Constitution, they laid the foundation for a Christian society.

In Matthew 7: 24-27 Jesus says,

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

The American Family Association’s ministry was built on that selfsame solid foundation mentioned by Matthew. Beginning in his living room during the late 1970’s the Rev. Donald Wildmon felt called to do something to stem the tide of godlessness in this country.  He formed the National Federation for Decency in 1977 (later renamed American Family Association). The first call to action was for all families to turn off their televisions for a week.

Fast forward nearly 40 years and we are still calling Christians across America to take action and stand for biblical truth. As most of you know there is a culture war raging now between good and evil and AFA is doing its part to help America win the battle.

For some time now our nation has thrived as her churches have sent out countless foreign missionaries. Today we are still responsible for the majority of foreign mission work.  Yet our homeland is growing dim. Unfortunately, I believe it is fair to say the church in America bears some responsibility for our spiritual decline today.  In many cases, our pulpits have grown quiet concerning the issues gripping our nation and dragging it down.

On a more encouraging note, in Ephesians 6:10-12 Paul says,

Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

In the midst of this spiritual battle we must put our trust and hope in the one thing that never changes, Christ Jesus.
