American Family Association: Nation Must Unite to Defund Planned Parenthood

Monday, July 27, 2015 @ 05:11 PM

TUPELO, Miss.—The nation continues to call for swift and harsh actions against the abortion giant Planned Parenthood, after two hidden-camera videos were released over the past two weeks—both exposing high-ranking abortion doctors casually talking about the sale of body parts of aborted babies.

Last week, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) encouraged Americans to contact their lawmakers demanding that the abortion giant be defunded through an Action Alert to its one million-plus friends and supporters. And now, especially in light of a newly proposed bill to defund Planned Parenthood for the next year pending investigation, more messages to lawmakers are urgently needed.

“Since AFA’s original Action Alert, tens of thousands of messages have been sent to our country’s lawmakers by concerned citizens,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “About 80 lawmakers have also responded through a newly proposed bill that would defund Planned Parenthood immediately. But our work is not done. Americans must continue to urge our lawmakers to support this bill to stop Planned Parenthood from furthering the gruesome business of abortion.”

On July 21, Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), along with 80 original co-sponsors, introduced H.R. 3134, the “Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, which would immediately halt all sources of Federal funding to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates for a one-year period,” reported LifeNews.com.

Black, a nurse for more than 40 years, told LifeNews that the shocking videos provide even more reason to ensure that Planned Parenthood does not receive taxpayer dollars, adding that the bill “would place an immediate moratorium on all federal funding of Planned Parenthood for the span of one year while Congress conducts a full investigation into the organization’s activities.”

“The fact that Planned Parenthood performs upwards of 327,000 abortions a year is heartbreaking and barbaric enough on its own,” Black continued. “The news that its employees engaged in the harvesting of aborted babies’ body parts is almost too much to bear and is incredibly revealing as to the true nature of the big abortion industry.”

Meeke Addison, Director of Communications for Urban Family Talk, a division of AFA, also recently spoke about the proposed bill with Perry Atkinson, host of “Focus Today” on The Dove-TV, based in Oregon.

“We are at such a critical junction right now when it comes to defending and protecting life, and if people have been waiting for an opportunity to be outraged, this certainly is it,” Addison said on Thursday’s show. “When you talk about federal funding for medical help and assistance for families, that doesn’t include dismembering babies and that doesn’t include making a fast buck off their body parts, and so the entire country is outraged. And I’m excited to see that even our Congress is wasting no time in responding to the climate of the American people.”
